About a half inch long, maybe less. Did not appear to fly, (nymph?).

This looks like a nymph of a green stink bug, Acrosternum hilare - see http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/veg/bean/green_stink_bug.htm
These nymphs exhibit a great deal of individual variation in appearance.
