It's been dry here in east central Illinois. I was checking my weather station yesterday and saw we hadn't received any measurable rain since 8/15. Two days ago I transplanted some white foxglove that came in the mail and digging in the dirt was like chipping concrete.
This morning we've received .46" of rain.
How is everybody else doing?

Some much needed rain
We've been getting rain for almost 3 weeks now. Unheard of in my neck of the woods in Aug.

Sighhh still high and dry. Our property is starting to sound like you're walking on rice crispies. :-(
Yea P, my yard is like walking on a sponge! It even has the squishing sound.
I have a slip and slide yard....LOL I don't dare gone into the veggie garden. I'd probably sink and disappear like in that old scifi movie The Attack of the Mole People...he-he
I'm going to spend the fall and winter re-claiming my flowerbeds from all the weeds and grass that have loved all this rain. I've got a mini plant swap in Oct. I'll have to work hard to get the yard closest to the front done then threaten anyone at the swap that tries go the side or backyard.
LOL!
Suppose to be pretty dry this week and my granddaughter left for home yesterday to return to school on Monday so the weeds will be flying this week....but I'm taking today OFF!
I guess the good thing for me is that it's been too dry for the weeds to do much growing. That half inch of rain the other day greened up the lawn without giving the weeds too much of a leg up in the flower beds.

You can have some of ours if you like gkii53. :-)) Rain that is! This wet and the slugs go into overdrive here in Ireland - all my Borlotti beans ravaged but got a good crop of San Marzano tomatoes in the greenhouse - fist time growing them - really delicious.
after 3 weeks of rain, you can pretty much imagine how badly my weeds are. I pruned shrubs and pulled weeds yesterday in one flowerbed for about 2 hours and still didn't get finished. Of course the bed does run in front half the front of the house then wrap around the full length of the side of the house.
We had a dry spell for a week or so, but other than that I do believe we have an ideal growing season this year.
I was so sick of drought the past few years I had almost given up.
This is the second day in a row it has rained here and everything, including the lawn is growing in leaps and bounds.
Last year I only had to mow the lawn once a week if I wanted to and no urgency.
This year it seems like every other day is too long.
At least with the rain, my baby trees and shrubs are setting good roots.
Mid Atlantic had an almost perfect spring and summer, then we must have gotten behind on our water bill in Aug and got turned off! Not a drop for about a month here. Getting dusty...
It hasn't rain here for several days now. I've been out in the veggie garden pulling weeds, turning, breaking up and leveling the rows.I can't believe how wet the soil still is even with a weeks worth of dry.
We too had plenty of rain this spring and early summer. Then none for a while. The grass never went dormant this year and we just got 2 and 2/10'' this morn.
Finally got some rain! Everythings greening up now, yayyyyyy.
Yay,for your rain.
Cool here this am but it warms up to lo-mid 90's and still too humid to be out, moving around and working after noon.Clouds and some thunder Friday evening but they moved on thur pretty quick with no rain fall.Could have used a wee sprinkle on my seed beds.
Isn't funny how quickly plants soak up the water from the beds and it's dry again. My bed was just wet enough for me to not work in yesterday, but I can and will today. We are supposed to warm to the high 80*'s. Glad I picked the shady bed to redo :o)
I'm going to have to start sprinkler tomorrow if we don't get anything off Gustav just so I can start pulling weeds and grass out off the flowerbeds.

My dirt hasn't been turned for years and a lot is hardpan just from rains. I have to get a fork and shovel in for the grass that's in mine. I have short grass. Can't find the name of it, but it's terrible.
I tried to dig in the ground yesterday and it is hard as rock. It is so dry. There is no need to mow the grass either. It's turning brown. We could really use some rain here.
We got over an inch of rain Thursday. I finally went out to look at my beds today. I'm glad I didn't put preen on because it would have disappeared. I get a much needed weeding break today.
I got two solids days of rain.
We have 7/10'' since this morning and it's still raining! Yesterday I pulled weeds and cut back the phlox and daylilies. They'll get soaked up good now!
I've been weeding like a crazy woman for 3 days. Planted most of my fall veggie garden Sat. More weeding to be done and a couple more rows to sew in veggie garden.
40% chance of rain for today.

I left on vacation the end of August. We had a bit over 2" while I was gone and another 1/2" the two days I've been back. The yard needs shearing. I'm glad I use mulch in the flower beds since they don't look too bad. I had to throw away a dozen tomatoes that got over ripe while I was gone.

2 & 7/10'' since yesterday. I need to mow!!
