Osteonecrosis and less gardening and feeding the birds

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

I'm 51 and have, the last 10-15 yrs. been gardening and feeding the birds both of which I greatly enjoyed. August of last year, I was diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the lower femur and upper tibia of both legs and Sept. 23 will be having total knee replacement of the left leg and will have surgery on the right one at a later date. Other than the pain that I am so often in, one of the most distressing things is my not being able to do the gardening as I once did. I do grit my teeth and do some things, such as watering and feeding the gardenias and other plants, along with filling the bird feeders on occasion. In the past, I filled them daily. This is the first time in 10 yrs. that I haven't fed the hummingbirds, as I must step up on a couple of milk crates in order to reach the feeders. They have to be hung high in order to prevent the cats from catching them. The buddleias look terrible, along with some of the others. The friend with whom I live does what he can to help but I did so enjoy doing these things myself. Gardening was my way, along with reading, to escape ME for a while along with the world in general. I don't know if I'm even on the right forum to post this and apologize if I'm not but I would so appreciate any feedback. Thank you, Leeflea51
