August Blooms part two, into Sept possibly

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I am doing the BIG job--as we speak---That is, cleaning out the front, round bed, digging up bulbs that were in there and then have to dig up the huge KK Hibiscus and replant it in the bed I just cleared.
I will post pictures of this on my "Fall Cleanup" Forum.

I also took a bunch of stuff that is still in bloom around my Garden. Will post it here later.

At this moment I am in for a short break and having a cold beer.....

Holly! WHAT is a "Tuberose"? Sure doesn't look like any kind of Rose to me!
Got a picture of the whole plant? Love the blooms!

Gita
OK! Back to work!!!!! I bet my back will be aching tomorrow......

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Less furniture more plants!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOLOL
That's why I love camping!!!!!!!!!!
Gita I need a beer. Hmm I could have one!! Kids are at shcool!!! Oops I meant school- maybe I had a beer already.....

Off to grocery store ugh.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I took a break of a more personal nature, You know Ric is home all day and there are no kids here any more. LOL

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

OHHH, now I can't wait for retirement. Yippee!!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL Jan, Retirement "is" wonderful.
Gita, When I ordered my Tuberose I wasn't quite sure what they were either. This isn't the best picture but most of the plant is grassy leaves with these flower spikes (this spike was broken off). The flowers are very pretty and rather long lasting and the best part is the smell it is just wonderful. I hope to get a lot more to plant near my seating areas. They are a more tropical bulb so you will need to dig them up to overwinter.

Oh take a look at all this empty space. Almost ready to move the plants in.

Heaven help you- that's more plants already than I plan to try to save here.
A little less 'retirement' fifteen years ago and I wouldn't be spending so much time and money at the grocery store...right, happy_macomb?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

lol... I think.

Stormyla, that flower you asked about is a cleome. This is Anemone hupehensis from bluspiral's seeds

Hey, remember I have 4 children. LOL
Those are just the house plants that never went outside for summer. I have a good dozen more to bring in before frost and half of them are of significant size.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

OK! I am ready to start my "deluge" of flowers still in bloom around my Garden.....
Fall comes quickly here---like right after Labor Day--but the plants just linger on......

This is my Angel Wing Begonia blooming away. I keep on my N.-facing front steps all Summer. Have cut back several branches already and they are rooting. Was hoping to share them at Jill's Swap---but then could not go....:o(

Hmmmm...maybe I should cut them all back....Root ALL the tips...and trade them all in the Spring? That's ALL I need! More pots of plants in my house!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Here is my HUGE pot of Dragon Wing Begonias.....it all started with a 10" HB. It has been in a 20" pot now for 2 yrs.

Now the plant is at least 3' across and blooming it's head off. I still want to carry it over to next Year. Will have to cut it back (seriously) before I bring it in.

If you have never bought this plant---it is the most awesome, flowering plant you can have in your Garden or in a large container.
You can also carry it over in your house for the WINTER.....I dig the smaller ones I have up and pot them up in gallon pots and keep them by a bright window in my spare bedroom. They DO go semi-dormant, but they will perk right up when you bring them outside.

Here is the same plant in one of my flower beds. In brighter sun--they get this intense red color!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Even though this "Beefsteak Begonia" is NOT a garden plant---I do keep it outside for the Summer. It grows these huge leaves in the fresh air and humidity---all of which will, eventually, wither away and drop off before the next growing season. And--so the cycle goes.......

You CAN propagate this Begonia from a single leaf and carry it on for years to come....

Here are some Impatiens by my front door--and some Caladiums that I started from corms myself this Spring.
The green bush behind them is my beautiful Camellia.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Here are some Impatiens in front of my HUGE "Peaces and Cream" Brugmansia. It has grown SOOOO huge, I am not sure what to do with it for the winter!!!!!

Last Fall--I just dragged the whole pot in my basement and it lived there (happily??) for the Winter. I root-pruned it in the Spring and re-potted it and now.......I have NEVER thought it would now grow this HUGE!!!!!
Originally---about 4 years ago----I bought it at a Farmer's Market in a 4" pot.

Have to decide if I want to repeat the "dormancy" thing----or, maybe take stem-cuttings and root them????
It has lovely, fragrant blooms! They start out as creamy-white......then turn a deeper cream and then a slightly pale peach. Then--in the end--they turn a really nice shade of peach before they are DONE. All this in 3-4 days!

This "THING" has grown into a massive bush! It has about 5 main trunks and is, finally, ready to bloom it's head off.....Dah!!!! It IS almost October!!!!

claypa- you just keep popping out these unusual pretty flowers

Gita that last pic is especially nice, the mix of color and scale

oops I meant the caladiums and impatiens by camellia

Here are my 3 heavy-clay Window Boxes on my wrought iron, kitchen "porch".....
I NEVER use this door!
I always plant, whatever, in these W-Boxes......Some things make it---some never do.

Here is my Mandevilla Vine in a BIG pot also by the KItchen Porch.....

I also carried this one over in a semi-dormant state in my basement last Winter.....

Heaven help me this year-----ALL the plants i want to save!!!!!

So pretty Gita, You were missed at the swap, too. Your yard looks wonderful, I love the Beefsteak Begonia. Don't you just love that Fall Push the plants put on one last hurrah.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

FINALLY!!!! My "Beginia Grandis" seems to have taken hold! Thanks, Hart...I think???

It has spent most of the summer smothered by big Coleus and the BIG Peaces and Cream Brug. I am glad to see that it made it!!!! Looking forward to having a nice clump of it.....

Holly--YES, I do! And I had many rooted cuttings of the B.S. Begonia as well as of my Angel Wing Begonia I wanted to bring and share......Oh, well!!!! Life and Work DO interfere.....

Here are some of my Pink, Autumn Sedums (doing well--in my "YUK" bed of all places!) blooming away behind my ever-growing bigger clump of Rosemary--which also seems to thrive in the harsh environment of my "YUK" bed!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This is, simply, a 10" HB of pink Wax Begonias that I bought and put them on my NE facing front steps. NOTHING will kill a Wax Begonia!!!!....except, maybe, too wet conditions.....

I really prefer the dark red foliage and red blooms one---and always pl;ant them in my bed at the end of the driveway. Will post that next....

Here are the only 3 Mums I have bought this Fall.....Sitting pretty on my front steps....:o)

Here is one of my all-time favorite annuals---THE PENTA!

It keeps on trucking--well into the colder times! It id drought tolerant.....grows and blooms on forever (keep dead-heading it though)...has great blooms.....comes in red, pink and (???) white??
When everything else seems to be giving up the ghost----Pentas just keep on trucking......

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

The previous was just a close-up of a couple of them.

Here is the whole row of them...I almost hate to think I will have to be pulling them up soon.....:o(

Here are the white, ....whatever-spermum Daisies just getting their second breath....

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

And--here is the "winner" of all drought tolerant, ever proliferating, no-problem yellow annuals------Can't think of the name of these at the time.....OH! I LOVE senior moments!!!!

A VERY reliable annual---fills in spaces and thrives in any beds--as long as ther is sun....

I'm having trouble getting photos to enlarge at the moment... but is that yellow flower "creeping zinnia" maybe? (Sanvitalia procumbens, I think)

I'm going to have to get some Pentas next year! They really do seem to be powerhouse bloomers.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Beautiful photos everyone. I didn't bring the pots out this year, so I'm free of the fall clean out duty. Here are Mums blooming with Soldiago and some reblooming Stella and a few lingering Rudbeckia.

Following along and enjoying everyone's photos! I've been lazy and haven't taken any myself :( We've been busy getting ready for our Open House this weekend so maybe once everything is spruced up I'll grab some photos to share. I have a Brugmansia which is finally getting ready to bloom and I'll definitely have to get pictures of that. A friend sent us a cutting three years ago and this is the first time the darned thing has ever bloomed. It's a good thing because it's a pain to keep dragging inside every winter and I was almost ready to give up!

Crozet, VA

Such beautiful pictures that everyone has taken. Thank you to everone who shared.

Gita, as always you proved yourself to an excellent teacher of all things green. You pointed out the names of two of the Begonia's that I didn't have labeled. The Beef Steak Begonia came from you last fall. It is doing well from spending the summer of the screened porch. I now have most all of my houseplants back inside. There are a couple of big ones that still need to come in and several smaller potted ones too. I need to tackle the spare bedroom and straighten in order to make more space in there. Holly, I loved your idea of making a home for houseplants by throwing out furniture. ha-ha My kind of gal.

I hope that everyone will keep sharing the photos. They make for some nice relaxing time here.

Take care all.

Ruby

Debbie, please give some information on your Open House that is coming up. Thanks.

JIll,

No it is not a creeping Zinnia.....I still can't think of the name....it is sold along with the "premium annuals" in a 4" pot....That is ONE plant....

I am sure when you can enlarge it you will know the name.
...I am thinking it starts with a "M"......mela....something....is there a melapodium????
I think the name is surfacing in my brain...

Gita

Here is a shot of what I accomplished yesterday. Clean and ready for the plants. I moved in a few and re-potted a couple there are approx 20 plants in here now and about 12 more to come in. But now that I have cleaned and rearranged I can move them in as soon as there is a frost warning. I guess these pictures really belong over on the Fall chores thread.
Shirley, That is one beautiful picture.
