Kids? Work? Pets?
Around here it hasn't been gardening so much lately, been too sick.
Been trying to catch up on painting a bit and spend much of my time researching the articles I write for DG. And chasing "The Boo." 'seen at the bottom of the picture, lmao.'
What keeps you busy?
Work, pets, hobbies, and the computer. I have too many pets. I spend a lot of time every day with them. I like to spend a little time each day with each pet to make sure they aren't feeling neglected. I also love to read, it is vital to me. I carry around three books with me at all times. I even read waiting in line at a drive thru. I crochet and craft. I usualy do those two in the winter when I can't garden. I also love plants! I spend a lot of time outside. I work in a garden center so I have even more plants then I did before. Also I make soy candles, I have a small home business. That really relaxes me. About a year and a half ago I inheirted the farm where I grew up and while it is in the country I now have access to the internet. I spend time on the computer nearly every day too. I have been known to joke that my job is interfering with all my hobbies. LOL I make stepping stones, windchimes and love to craft with grapevine shapes. Hobby Lobby is a good place. Oh and I'm married, he gets some of my time too. You might have guessed that I don't have any children. I wouldn't have time to have so many hobbies if I had kids. I also like to take classes but there haven't been any lately that have caught my fancy.
I usually don't do all these things at the same time, however I have to read everyday.
The Boo looks pretty cute!
Too wet the passed 2 weeks to garden. Weeds are taking over and I'm way behind on getting fall garden in.
I've had my youngest granddaughter all summer so she's kept me hopping. She goes back to school this coming Monday.
Working on the new addition that's taken 2 yrs. to finally be able to move into. Since the first of Aug. I've worked on it almost non-stop but except for some more acessories,it's done.
Hope to tackle kitchen re-do this winter.
All my time this year was taken up with both of my parents. They were very sick and passed away. They lived in separate states and the commuting was starting to take it's toll. It's all over now and I really need something to occupy me this winter. Besides work, the TV and books. LOL
Not sure what I'll be doing. Starting a new scrapbook would take lots of time. A sort of famliy time-line is what I'm thinking. I have some very old pics of our relatives on both sides. 1880's or so. I would also like to learn a new language. That would occupy LOTS of time.
My time these days is taken up with DH's new love, his car. He got a 1991 Corvette. He sits in the garage and stares at it. Sorry...her. LOL There is a little work she needs and we've been running her around getting paperwork finished from the sale because it was from a private seller and he didn't sign everything properly. He lives about 60 miles from us.
No children, but we do have 2 kitties. They require attention, especially the female. She's my shadow in the gardens and in the house. The male has separation anxiety if we're away for any length of time, he needs LOTS of love on our return. LOL It takes about 6 hours or so for him to be back to normal. heaven forbid if we should go on vacation! Then it takes about a week.
Digging and dividing iris. Digging 80' of daffodils planted 1 foot apart. Looking thru gardening books getting ideas on bed redos and now, canning tomatoes.
Crimson, hope you feel better soon. Boo is adorable!!
Amber, busy isn't the word for it!!! Wow!
Bigred, grandkids do keep you hopping! Wish I had a new addition!
Kwanjin, I'm so sorry. That must have been rough. Smiling over the dream car. DH has a 63 Galaxie. Staring and waxing :o)
Kwanjin Were you thinking of taking a class to learn a new language or getting some of those tapes? I have looked into the tapes but I wonder if it wouldn't be better to have a live person hearing you and correcting you. Did you have any languages in mind? I figure Spanish would be more helpful, also I could practice it on people at work but Italian or French would be more exciting to me. I also would like to learn to sign. One of my immediate coworkers has a son that is deaf so I could practice on her.
I am sorry for your loss. It must have been very hard to go through that, it takes a strong person to do what you did.
Bigred Congrats on your new addition!
Billyporter Hope you like to dig. LOL Are you going to replant them some other place? If you are, again I hope you like to dig. LOL
I've been watching a lot of decorating shows on HGTV and DIY so "Look Out" I feel some changes coming....LOL. I especialy love the show "From Junky to Funky". I just found it a week or so ago. I love taking stuff and re-purposing it into something else.
Here's my new Funky Junk room...not finished yet. Only thing new in this new addition is the 8 ft. long long dining table hub's built for me. You can't see it in this pix.
This room was once our front porch/patio and wasted space we never used so had hub's enclosed it.

hehe i love that room!!
I wanna paint our floors but hubbies too traditional. maybe when he's gone...hunting.....buhahahha!
Man i wish it was wet here, everything is crispy fried lmbo.
Amber, for me at least one on one tutoring would work better.
Kwan, I was studying tamil and ojibwa a few years ago, it's fun to learn!
Bigred...go for it...I painted my entire basement, was going to be a temp. solution to no flooring but nope, wears so well, little upkeep that I'm keeping it for the time being...
Right now I'm enjoying my garden, much garden art done..presently working on a DG friendship garde..working on metal shed that I hate, soon to be a work of art with faux windows, flower boxes, signage of DG friends names/mileage so I'm here at work in the city, counting the hours till 1 so I can get home and do more to the project...lol..don't know why I'm counting the hours, brought one of the panels in to finish painting...lol
I have two cats, one thinks he's a dog and follows me everywhere, the other hides and sleeps all day. I have a 9 yo son that is in school and a hubby that works alot. I spend too much time on the computer, mainly here at DG. That's where I get my education! lol Everything I need to know, I find here. ;) I'm working on getting weeds and grass out of my back yard, that I neglected during days of 100 degree temps and no rain here, either! I'm adding iris to my beds, I'm a newbie in that sense. Trial and error here and am finding out that bulbs like tulips don't do well here. I am also working on a big shade bed in the front because the tree is getting so big and the neighbors tree too, that they are almost joined together.
I start my day off every day by reading(prayers), love to cook, catch a little Food Tv now and then and sometimes garden related shows on hgtv. Not much of a tv person, love to read, make primitive crafts, scrapbooking.... anything to do with flowers.
Betty...WOW! Is that a stencil or did you free hand it?
I wanted to do something more decorative w/ this floor but it's 25x25 and I don't get up and down as good as I use to.Concrete on this floor is rough and I'm having a hard time w/ it chipping. Been touching it up w/ spray paint but haven't been successful in finding a good match for the color.Isn't easy to mop either...have to go back and pick off mop lint and strings.
Wished it stop raining here...I'm floating away.Does help that I can't get out so I'm getting some indoor things done.
crimson,
my hub's has learned not to argue w/ me when I get the decorating bug. He's retired now as of last Aug.,worked out of town mostly so he got use to coming home for the weekends to find I'd "be at it again"....LOL

When I get crafty I wish hubby worked outta town LMBO!
Oh my gosh, lemme tell ya'll, I was talking to him about adding BORDER in the bathroom. B.O.R.D.E.R- he had something to say about that! Sheesh.
I swear the man would live with white walls and beige carpet.
Well, weve only been together for 4 years now so I'm still new to the make him do it my way attitude. I don't wanna railroad him but my gosh...lemme be creative! It's just cheap paint "it can be fixed" if I mess up.
I have decided he can bite my bum and I am doing the bathroom countertop when I ge the money for supplies. hehehe
That floor is great Betty!
Amber, I was thinking of Spanish. I work in a community with a high Latino population. DH was thinking of brushing up on his then we could practice with with each other. He's Puerto Rican and both his parents spoke it in the home. I was thinking of the Rosetta Stone tapes. I would definitely LOVE the learn Japanese but have no clue where I'd use it! LOL
Betty, you never cease to amaze me. Your work is wonderful.
Raggedyann what kind of books do you read? I completely understand about the 100 degree temps, now for the last week we had 70 degree temps, set a new record for lows in August and we are setting a record for rain fall in August. If it isn't too hot to work in the yard it is too muddy. Oh, the joys of Oklahoma weather.
Bettypauze I have cardboard pieces from work that look like sunflower petals. Of course you have to put a bunch together to get the whole flower but I want to paint big sunflowers on the back of my metal barn. The back faces the road and I think it would look pretty. I kept saying that but haven't got around to it. Maybe looking at your panel will inspire me to get started on it.
Bigred that is a very nice "porch/patio" Maybe that will get me going on painting my bathroom, actually I need to finish painting my living room, dining room, and kitchen. I am having to use oil based primer first as I am trying to cover up nicotine. My "get up and go" says to wait for a less hectic time at work. (Don't know when that will be we set for Halloween and Christmas in the middle of next month and we got 613 shrubs and flowers in today) LOL
Crimsontsavo maybe if you just do it he will like the creative look.
Kwanjin I was watching one of the newscasters try to learn Chinese while visiting at the Olympics .....it looked and sounded hard. LOL I had Spanish in high school maybe I better stick with that. LOL
lmbo, thats how I got a big crumbly space in my bedroom, I "just did it" and removed the closet! If I ever get the supplies it'll look good, I told him so, LOL!!! There's a project for winter, building my 'coolacious' closet!
We so want to see pics of that Coolicious closet, Crimson! Should be awesome.
Bigred, I think your room is very comfy looking. Love the furry pillows!
Amber, that was probably very funny to listen to! LOL
Hehe Ill post, itll have to be wayyy later whilst hillis is hunting long, or outta state at a hunt cause well, you know! LOL
my daughter use to work at a furniture manufactor so I picked up the pillows for a cool eight bucks a piece. Wished now I had bought some more.
Looking for some old sofa cushions to re-cover for floor pillows for grandkids to sit on.Saw that idea yesterday . Since I don't like bean bags, that'd work great for me.
My hub's didn't say much when I painted that one wall outside purple coneflower "pank". I got ribbed by a couple of the other neighborhood husbands...I just told them, they'd better shut up or I'd paint the whole darn house that color.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
you sound just like me hahhaa
looks real prudy decorated for xmas in all shades of pinks, white and silver
Ohh I bet that IS pretty. Now you got me wanting to paint mine LOL.
Bigred..no not stencilled, just random painting, entire basement except for my studio is done...
Have you thought perhaps of painting your floor a complimentary (cement paint) and picking up linoleum at a manageable size, I've many work tables in my craft room to accommodate but if I didn't I'd set up plywood and on support workbenches and would do my creating at arms length..
Painting done on backside of linoleum..never wears out, painted this one for my back deck cafe room..
That BACKSIDE! Now that's an idea.
I did a floor for my friend and now if I ever do it again Ill remember to use the BACKSIDE of the linoleum!
Great tip Betty!
That's a very nice one Betty! Beautiful!
Wow, there are some talented folks here!! I need to finish painting the stairwell. It's white and I want to paint some areas faux brick with ivy/flowers coming out of it. I saw this on one of the shows on hgtv. Guess it will have to wait until cooler weather and the humidity isn't so bad or when the mood strikes me! lol
Amber, where do you work? I think I'd love to work with plants (they don't talk back), but I'd always be broke! I already have more than I need.
It has cooled off a lot here. We are expecting highs in the 70's next week. I think fall is on the way!
I read gardening books, mostly the ones with more pictures than words LOL, and dmail me about the others. I don't want to get in trouble here ;)
Raggedy, the whole plant this is prolly right, you'd be broke, lol.
My friend works for Avon and lemme tell you she does really well with her orders...
Yes never makes ANY money, LOL!!!
It's so easy to spend money on something you love and are working in lol. "Oh I get a 15% discount..it's only a 1.00 plant... (100 plants later..LOL)
Oo! Betty! You can roll that one w/ the flowers up and mail it to me. I use to paint many long years ago.
My neighbor tried to give my hub's some old barn wood last week but he didn't take it. Now I'm wondering how much of it he has and if it could be recycled to a wood floor w/ some plaining and sanding.
P
you'd better go ask if they found a home for it, wouldn't it look nice...yep, amazing what we can do if we just 'decide' to do it, not procrastinating...and DO!
Everyone in this neighborhood sleep till almost 11 on Sundays, why can't they get up, need a hand to put 8 screws into my garden shed frame...maybe I'll sit on the steps of the variety store down the street in hopes of finding a body who will help this distressed lady..like for about 5 minutes...hmmm-just might do it..
