LOL Lin,
I'm not a angel but when hurricane Katrina went though New Orleans I told myself was going to do something to help but didn't.Then when my sister and I went to New Orleans and I saw so much distruction still, I came home and joined the Red Cross..So thats my story and I'm sticking to it.LOL.
I do hope Hannah stays away from Fla.Back to Back storms.Wow.Looks like this will be a real active year for storms.
o/t Has anyone heard from plantladylin?
I hear they can take the PETS if they have to leave this time. HELLO, it's about time. That was the most horrific part, the poor pets, they had no choice.
Here in Florida they always are stressing for people to prepare ahead of time for big storms and to make arrangements for pets also.
It will really be interesting if the time ever comes where we have to evacuate with our 4 old cats. I can see it now, loading 4 cat carriers and litter pan, food and water for them as well as our suitcases and stuff into the truck! We'd probably have to split up and take my car too! I haven't driven on the interstate in 18 years but I would do it if we had to get out of here. My husband knows I will not stay if we are ever predicted to have a catagory 3, 4 or heavens forbid 5 storm headed for our area. It would be very scary even in a cat 2 storm. He always boards up the windows and doors and braces the garage door for even catagory 1 hurricanes. We have been very fortunate that no storm has ever hit us directly. In 2004 we had 3 hurricanes come through here in a 5 week period! They all came across the state from the west side and were catagory 1 by the time they reached our area. The damage was awful on the SW coast of the state where one of the storms made landfall! We were so fortunate that we only had landscaping damage with large trees uprooted everywhere ... others were not so lucky.
In my adult life, Lin, we have survived about 4 category 3 and 4 have hit us in south Texas.
The only name I can remember is Celia back in the 70's where her winds were clocked at 165 coming directly into Portland on the water which is 10 miles away from my house.
My brother lived on the water in Portland at the time. Every house was leveled flat..............
I feel such heartbreak for anyone who has to receive these strong hurricanes.............
I do remember one (no name I can remember) when I was at UT in Austin. I was living in the sorority house on the third floor at the time. We had an oak tree in the back yard that was taller than our 3 story house. She just snapped and fell on the fraternity house next door and just split the house open..........fortunately no one was there where she fell or they would have been killed obviously.
