I'm offended because it's not a level playing field for the rest of us vendor's that play by the rules--I could go over to the bulb forum and tell all about what I sell, but I would not be allowed to do that. It's in the acceptable use policies--so I avoid the forum unless its to ID a plant.
What's the Argument Against Non-Organic Fertilizer?
I found amuckey's post informative and relevant. And she couldn't really say "all organic fertilizers," so it makes sense that she specified which one. I don't see how she could've given that level of detail otherwise.
I really don't care who's selling what; I just want to be informed about these issues. She didn't ask anyone to buy this product from her, so I don't see the problem.
When Hector was knee high to a pup I wrote under my name and a pen name for Rodales fine Organic Gardening Magazine. We were encouraged to mention vendors with the vendor's permission when it brought together the article. When criticism was well presented they printed the letters to the editor. When the criticism was flat out pitching a fit that was old baloney that never made the news. JR Rodale in about 1950 said flat out that the money trail of the chemistry companies would tell the truth. Many gains were made in his lifetime by helping others learn the organic principles. He was not afraid to fund possible failures to present the real principles to the gentry. He was and his company remains supportive of many fine programs to this day helping those who wish to develop the organic lifestyle for years to come.
docgipe,
We suscribed to JI's Prevention Magazine in the old days about 1970 and I have several of the old issues. When it comes to health, I am a great believer in natural health [alterative] health care and lots of nutrients rather than the chemical drug way whenever possible....yeah, I got a tetanus booster and azithromyicin when a tick bite stayed red for several days.
Note from admin: I have gently edited a post above, so the relevant information is still there, but it doesn't refer to anyone's specific products.
As a side note, if you believe someone's post violates any part of the Acceptable Use Policy (and let's not forget it gives specific guidance on member conduct as well as prohibits self-promotion) please use common courtesy and either contact the poster privately or contact us if administrative intervention is necessary. Either of those actions are more constructive, professional and effective than than publicly scolding a fellow forum participant.
I didn't find any posts self serving. If a person speaks the truth, unbiased, and from valuable personal experience I want to hear what they have to say.
If it isn't blatant hard-selling techniques, I don't think anyone should be offended, it just happens to be one member's area of expertise, one that could teach us all if we care to be around.
I am learning a tremendous amount on this thread, thank you ALL for posting.

Holey cow.............JI Rodale ??? At seventy three may the guy will forgive me. Can't even claim a typo. We have had a few truck loads of pulp from their printing presses. Most of it grew worms. We do use many of the principles found in most good healthy eating guidelines.
As in most cases we make no effort to be perfect. One could go nuts and broke finding the perfect all inclusive perfect. In fact we even get uncomfortable around the one or two fine souls that would have you believe they are absoutely organic eaters. Then you see them out in the parking lot having a Coke and Smoke. Yea team LOL
Docgipe, I don't know what you are referring to that JI Rodale might have to forgive for, can you explain?
frostweed,
doc is referring to spelling J. I. Rodale with an R. instead of an I.
J. I.'s father died of a heart attack at 52. The oldest son died of a heart attack at 52. The second son I believe died at 52. The next son was shaking in his boots but made it to 54. J.I. at 40 realized he needed to do something different and he began experimenting with things he believed to be healthier. Finally he began publishing his own monthly magazine.
J. I. was in the TV studio with Dick Cavett waiting to tell the world about his discoveries when he died suddenly at 72 years with a heart attack.!!!
Wow! that is quite a story, I didn't know about the Rodale men dying of heart attacks at 52, thank you for telling me.
Josephine.
Hey, could I get some of you to help me out on this thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/962631/ ? The soil test results for our community garden came back and we need help figuring out what we need to do. Thanks!
Indy...........thanks for the spell check. I'm 73. Suddenly I thought I felt a coffen lid opening and a poisoned dart being tossed in my general direction. Off the record he did have a bit of a temper but it seldom showed in public.
If any of you get anywhere near the Rodale homestead and business base it is well worth your time and interest to tour the farm...so to speak. Google will get you there for more information.
Brief thread hijack-
Per admin, I could not cross post this info on a new thread as non-members would see it and be distressed. I thought people on this forum might be interested in this product we are having a co-op for right now. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/962566/
Thank you for your tolerance,
Maggie
