These little buggers were all over ONE leaf on my corokia. I found that incredibly strange. Seriously, i looked the whole plant over and even search nearby plants. I only found them concentrated on this ONE leaf.
What the heck are these things?
CLOSED: Tiny larvae
Weird... I hope you squished them though. Would hate to lose a pretty bonsai!
Can you try taking a clearer photo? I cannot tell whether they are caterpillars or sawfly larvae.
That second shot of them is the best I can do I'm afraid. I took a couple dozen shots and tried different camera settings. They are just too small, I'd need a better camera to get anything clearer than this.
I just checked out this gallery http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/sawfly_larvae and none of those seem to match directly.
Are they pear slugs? http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/INSECT/05560.html
They would be on one leaf only, because eggs were laid on that leaf - only. Lucky for you.
It's gotta be something like that. Suunto suggested sawfly larvae, and that page you linked to says pear slugs are a type of sawfly larvae. They were not really slimy, though. I'm guessing they must be some type of sawfly that I cannot find pictures of.
