Would like to know what family/genus I have to search for its ID.
Here it is feeding on a thistle flower in the company of two bumblebees
CLOSED: Small green metallic beetle...
Although this could be a soldier beetle (Coleoptera: Cantharidae) - see http://www.biolib.cz/en/image/id32898/, there’s something about that bothers me. I’ll do some more looking, and get back to this thread if I come up with a better i.d.
Thank you Suunto, I also thought it belonged to the family of Cantharidae, but didn't get any results with a google search..
I think it's a female Oedemera nobilis

Perhaps better still, Oedemera lurida

I think you nailed it, wallaby - I don't know why I didn't think of Oedemeridae; brain cramps, I guess...
Sorry for the late reply! I've been very busy..
That's definitely the same as yours Wallaby, Thank you! But it looks like it has more plants than Geranium Sylvaticum on its menu..
It looks like your computer problems are solved!
Yes I have had to get a new computer, can't live without it! This has 4 times the RAM but seems slower, will soon have broadband though.
suunto, I had a head start as I had already found this one before. Brain overload perhaps, lol.
Wow, you must feel like a child with a brand new toy!
I got myself a new camera as my other is in the repair and it will take one and a half month, cannot live without a camera for so long, lol!
Oh yes, and this one has some nifty features on Pictures, Dell only sells Vista Home Premium now. Lol, you have a new toy too, isn't it great to be a kid again! Which camera did you get?
Which Dell did you get? The new computers come with hard drives with huge storing capacities too, very handy when you have piles of pictures! When it has so much RAM, it should be very speedy like when your processing your pictures. My 7 year old computer is getting slower and slower, sometimes working on my nerves, even after cleaning up from spies, virus-scans, defragmentation and a regular Regcure clean-up and checking if the hard disk is not too full. I think it has to do with the Ram only being 500MB and my pictures are very heavy in MB.
I was very tempted to buy a SLR, but problem is that I would have to buy a macro-lens with it and good quality ones are very expensive. And these things are clumsy and heavy to handle, more difficult to keep steady without tripod.
Then there was the fact that finally I started to master most of the features in the Canon G7 and didn't feel like starting all over again with a different one and that has put me over the stripe.
So I ended up buying another Canon Powershot, (despite my dispute with Canon, sigh..) but the upgraded version G9 because it offers the best solution for macro-photography. The G9 has 12MP and also the possibility to shoot in RAW-mode which I haven't used yet.
And yes I'm as happy as a kid too with my new toy and go on pic-hunting trips...:-)))
12MP would come in handy for me too, lol! My camera is lighter than most, but then the macro is a good point, although I do manage reasonably good shots at a distance I would like a lens for closer shots. I tried using RAW and had a free trial with the NIkon RAW programme needed, but there was no instructions and although the basic adjustments which I could use were good it took a lot of time, didn't have a hope of understanding the rest and the RAW prog. was expensive.
I got the most basic one they were offering, Inspiron 530 which comes as standard with a 19" wide flat monitor, 250GB SATA hard drive (had 160), 2,048RAM (had 512), Core2 Duo Processor with 2.53GHz (had 3.0 Pentium4HT which I think was faster!), 1066MHz FSB (had 800), 3MB cache (think it was only 1MB). Speakers not included as I have them and rarely use them but you get the keyboard and mouse and a DVD +/-rw , Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100. I had to add a modem to get dial up too, but it's a good idea to have one in case you need it as a back up. They offer much higher specs now for less money, but I got a £60 off offer then added in £60 to extend in home warranty to 3 years from 1 year (was over £71 but she let me have it cheaper, lol)
I got 15 months Norton Internet Security for £15 as they told me there was no firewall but there is one with Windows to turn on! I could have used that and the basic CD I have already got as well as AOL's security and Spybot, but I guess it's not much for the total package. Price started at £399 with delivery, with add ons was £499, eek, there goes my winter fuel bill savings!
You wouldn't believe it but my arrow froze last night after an auto update from Norton IS, second day on the internet. I had to switch off with the start-up button, then restarted and got a message that it hadn't started properly with the 'press Enter' to 'Start Normally'. thank goodness it worked but then I have got the 3 years cover. When my XP locked up it had a File recovery when I started up, which seemed to work but there was a notice that Norton couldn't check the Instant Messages downloads (which I don't use) as it couldn't find the Files needed. Well, the darned computer had completely locked and wasn't going to come back this time, so a new one was the only real option as it may not have been a problem with the hard drive, could have wasted the money on that. But it was Norton both times, so I'm wonder if there is a problem with them.
Geez, I was checking my post and AOL disconnected, seems there is a problem with their AOL9VR too! It took me an hour to get on today! I had downloaded their new Desktop but it was the US version, now being trialled here with the UK version but thought I had better wait for Broadband, that was better for connecting. My new computer is doing my head in, lol. Luckily I had copied my text.
For the moment I'm not really interested in the RAW-feature as I'm very satisfied with what I get out from the jpeg.. I wouldn't really know what to do with the RAW-thing anyway, my poor old computer would give up I think, lol! One picture could turn up like something into the 50MB!
I think you got your new computer at a very reasonable price! It's amazing how the prices got down and the computers much more powerful!
I paid about double of that 7 years ago for my now outdated one!
Strange about the Norton thing you're having trouble with. I only had it for two years and had quite some problems with it too (not sure though if Norton is to blame or my beginners ignorance) but after I got E-trust antivirus, now about 4 years, I never had any trouble or virus again..
But I recently also have problems with the internet connection suddenly being disconnected on DG and specially on the Diptera-site sometimes so ennoyingly slowed down I had to give up many times..
But anyhow I think you'll be very happy with the broadband. At least I was when I changed from Dial-up..
I've been looking around AOL's security centre, one of the questions is 'which firewalls will work with broadband'. Norton Security is one which there has been "current" as of April this year current incompatibilities, so I will have to keep that in mind when I set up broadband but I also would have thought they had it sorted by now. I've spent ages turning things on and off, lol, but have found my way around.
DG did have problems on Monday, but disconnection is another problem. Viruses can cause that, have you checked for updates on Spybot, they have had several lately but I now have to reload that on this computer. With broadband you shouldn't be that slow, but they can give slow connections and it also depends on the site you are on whether they are having problems.
All this is not about bugs, oh yes it is, lol!
Thanks for the spybot-hint! I had all forgotten about it as I have another programme automatically updating and scanning. Spybot hadn't been updated since June!
It found 18 spies which the other didn't. Hopefully the problem will get better now.
Thank you!
Whew! ;))
