DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 43

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

I think Nan's picture of the chrysalis is just at an odd angle. It looks like she's staring up at it from underneath so it may be a Question Mark.

Love the Tiger ST! I've seen a few around here lately; they must have had another brood eclose recently.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

The caterpillar sure looked like a QM; could be the angle.
Nanny, is the chrysalis as short as it appeared in the pic or is it about an inch long?

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I found a couple of eggs on some native milkweed behind the subdivision mailboxes. Bet they're from a Queen. Took them home to raise, assuming they hatch. Nice!
Beautiful BF pictures...I thought I saw a TST the other day, but it was flying into the trees when it caught my eye and I can't even be sure it really was that.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

It is about an inch long. I am shoting at an up angle(from the underneath!)..trying to get my big camera in through the cutout door!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Hi all, just checking in to say I'm enjoying everyones going ons with the butterflies. : ) Today was one of the busiest days I've had all summer. I had a RSP, TST, Monarch and some fritillaries in the yard at once today. : )

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

These fritillary were up to some funny business, but in the end they seemed to determine they weren't compatible : )

WOW!!! Lots of new photos - all quite awesome!!! Love those little cassius blues!!!

It was very cloudy at the ranch and no sign of sunshine at all. Drizzled on and off but there were still lots of butterflies flying about. Stood around watching this little skipper go all the way into the mandevilla blossoms. I swear I could just about hear it slurping away!!!

Also spotted a cute little Ceraunus Blue on a native passiflora foetida.

Nice pictures jmorth! I love the lily and Tiger. I bought those kind of lilies just for the Tigers because I heard they love them. I have yet to see one on them though. At least they are beautiful and garden worthy anyway! : )

Does anyone have rue in their gardens, for the BST's? I'm thinking about growing some next year, since my dill and parsley get so tired so early in the season. Maybe some fennel too....

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

I've got some Rue. One thing I noticed is that cats that started on Rue were very reluctant to use anything else. And cats started on fennel were reluctant to switch to Rue.

Seabrook, SC(Zone 8b)

Lovely photos- the zebra swallowtail that Mellie in Florida posted yesterday was beautiful.

Nothing too unusual here- lots of gulf frits a variety of sulfurs. I seem to mostly battle hords of cutworms and webworms this year. :(

This picture is of a Long-Tailed Skipper. It's slightly blurry, but this was the one that showed how bright blue his body was.

You know, when I planted this yellow butterfly bush, I had read in several places that the butterflies would not be as attracted the nectar of this plant as the regular butterfly bushes. I've not found that to be the case at all, and find that the swallowtails in particular are attracted to this plant.

I have hear the same thing regarding the yellow ones. I just loved the one I had but all the spring rain and storms did the poor little thing in.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Nice website Mrs Ed.

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

My yellow butterfly bush seems to attract more Tiger swallowtails than the purple ones.

My dark purple butterfly bush is always loaded with butterflies, so is the lighter purple/pink one. I'm glad to hear the yellow butterfly bush also attracts butterflies well, I would like to get one for next year!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Nothing is attracting bfs here this year! It is really sad not to see but one or two a week. I have the 'dark knight' and the pale orchid too. I keep hoping that the rains and wind changes from Fay in FL will drive some our way.
On an up note I have a lot more hummers this year than last. They are active on the Turks cap, Vitex, Milkweed, B & blue salvia, and the red yucca. They are also fighting to guard my two feeders!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

The second early instar BST found died..This is my frist early intar that I found ...I don't know what that is white thing underneath him is . A good thing or a BAD thing.
It seems to be attached to him. He seems to have been in the same spot all day. But I did get him to move his head so I know he alive. Nervous mommy here....

Took a walk in a state park today and found a few that aren't in my yard.

#1 Common Buckeye. Not so sharp, but still nice to have seen them..

Oh bad news Nannie. I think that might be a wasp thing. Someone was just asking about that on a different thread.

#2 Another buckeye, looking a little tattered.

These next two are blurry as well, but I was so happy to finally get this species to land long enough to get a picture.

#3 Eastern Tailed Blue (let me know if I'm wrong on any of these).
