CLOSED: cat with spikes?

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6b)

I was moving some canna's and I thought I got a cut from ones of the leaves. It stung just like a paper cut. After checking the leaf out I realized there was a cat(?) with spikes one the underside of the leave. An hour later and the swelling is going down but it still stings. Anyone know what this bug is?

That's a Saddleback cat, and they hurt!!! I've been stung by one and I thought a snake had bitten me!

Hi Dot, hope all is better with your arm now. Just came across this thread and have never seen such a critter. Really not happy to hear they are here in Hagerstown? I'll keep my eye out for them now, they are quite hideous looking.

Sorry I forgot to get back and say thank you fly_girl.

The information was extremely helpful. I figured out why they were on my canna's. This cat seems to like corn and my canna's were growing in containers straight across from where the corn is growing and I imagine the little bugger seen the simularity in the leaves.

With the heads up I checked the corn before touching and sure enough there were more of these cats on the corn. This time with the knowledge I knew to look first before touching so no more stings.

Hi Candee, its been a long time. I hope life is treating you and you growing family wonderful. I can imagine you are busier than ever now with 2 granbabies.

Thanks dot, actually not. The cabin keeps us busy but the grandbabies are not local. One on the eastern shore and the other in OH so don't see them near as often as we would like. Oh, well that is the way it is sometimes. We are both doing okay and I was just telling Steve last eve that I saw you on dg and was telling him about these horrid creatures that have invaded Hagerstown!
