Box Elder Beetle?

"eyes"

Charlevoix, MI(Zone 4b)

They don't look like the box elder bugs around here. The ones that we get have a pointed oval shaped body.
I have tons of them sometimes. Yuck.

This is what I have for box elders:

It's a Soldier Beetle, maybe a Goldenrod Soldier Beetle Chauliognathus pensylvanicus, but there are other similar species. The adults eat pollen.

Thanks, claypa!! I'm so glad I didn't obliterate them. Hubby wanted me to wipe them out because they are "bugs", I wanted to see if they were beneficial first!! :)

Thanks again,
Michelle in Michigan
