CLOSED: Spider attacking my plants???

Keswick, VA

Several of the plants in my garden seem to have some kind of bug attacking the foliage. I have a patio tree rose, some french marigolds and some coneflowers and phlox. I've noticed that the leaves on these plants are yellowing and curling, and looking dried out and papery. Some of them actually have a little bit of a web around them but I can't see any bug. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I can get rid of it? Sorry, I cannot provide a picture.

Sounds like spider mite to me! If you want to get rid of them, spray your plants with cold water twice a day. They hate that!

See http://entomology.ucdavis.edu/faculty/parrella/rose%20pma%20two%20spotted%20mite.html for images of the two-spotted spider mite, including typical webbing, for comparison with what you have.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. My plants do look like the pictures you sent suunto, so thank you very much.
If cold water will do the job I'll try it Tuinkabouter; otherwise, I'll find an insecticide that can handle spider mites. My plants looked so pretty a little while ago and now they are beginning to look horrible, so thanks again.

Is this a plant in a pot? Then you can also move it to a place where it catches the wind or some draft. Mites don't like that either. They're very hard to kill with insecticides......
