??tiger lillies?? don't come back anymore - wonder why?

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

I've lived here 13 years. Up until a few (3-5) yrs ago some very pretty Tiger Lilies (I think) came up every year. Well, I have planted a couple of shrubs (Butterfly Buddlea and Carolina Allspice near them. The Lilies have disappeared. Have I knocked out the sun and just need to thin out those shrubs?...or are they probably gone for good now. Also, Is my understanding correct that if I can get a Lillie start from somebody (seeds even) ...that they can be overwintered in basement in dry soil and then "resurrected in the spring"... many thanks for those of you helping me and others with these issues! ;-))

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Hi Birdie, welcome to DG!

If your lilies have been gone for 3-5 years, then I'd say they either rotted or a critter got them. If you do get bulbs this year then plant them promptly. They need the winter chill and lily bulbs are never truly dormant so dry soil in a basement wouldn't be ideal.

absolutly...try to match the dirt/peat they are shipped or sold to you in if you cannot plant immediately.
:D
