Hi -
I'd love to plant some lilies this fall, but am unsure which general types would have the best chance of success in my yard. I am interested in some of the taller types; we do have a couple Asiatic lilies already. I have read that some lilies do not tolerate heat and humidity as well as others - not sure if this is a big problem in the Midwest (as opposed to the South for example, but I'm from California so it all seems super hot and humid to me!), and I'm concerned also about balancing that with whether we'll have enough sun.
I am looking for some for an east-facing border near our building (gets mainly AM sun but there are spots where we have roses doing OK), and I also have a sunnier spot (enough to grow lavender and my annual flowers are doing quite well). BTW I was hoping to start with a few more 'tried-and-true types' like Black Beauty, Silk Road, Casa Blanca but didn't want to do something totally unsuited to our conditions!!
Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!
best lily types for Chicago?
You really can grow just about anything that you'd like, and the areas with morning sun is especially good for the orientals.
Edited to add ~ excellent drainage is your best friend!
