Bubblers?

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I've been hearing about bubblers and have a couple questions

Can I use an aquarium tank (no fish, lol) as one.? Or is the filter not ok. It makes bubbles, so I thougt maybe it would. I have some coleus I put in a couple days ago and they still look fresh.

I'll be in heaven if you tell me it will work.

You mean the kind that you use in an aquarium? Yup, that's what I use.

But you don't need a bubbler for coleus - they do fine in just plain water.

Yeah!!!!!!! What do you use it for. I put coleus in there, but wasn't sure about other things.!!! I figured brugs would work.

Forgot. Some people have told me to put something in there so their leaves are out of the water, then others say just toss them in.

So which is best?

If you leave the leaves in the water they'll rot in the water. They aren't helping the plant at that point, so I'd cut 'em off.

I rooted some Brug's that way (with a bubbler, I mean).

You took all the leaves off?

Nope, just the ones below the water line. With some plants that are more difficult to root you would take off just about all but one or two leaves and those are cut in half. With a coleus, however, I would only remove the leaves below the water and leave as many pretty leaves as you can.

Okey doke. What do you use to keep them above water? Don't you wish I'd think of all this stuff at one time? lol

A lot of times, with coleus at least, it's the shape of the container. The leaves are broad enough to keep the clipping from slipping down too far.

These are the clippings in my kitchen window - really, most of the containers are shallow enough that they wouldn't fall far, if they did fall.

I am using an aquarium that I haven't used in a while, but the pump is fine. I went tonight to Wallyworld and got some styrofoam. I put little holes in it and stuck the cuttings in so the leaves would be above water. IT WORKED!!! The leaves are above water and the styrofoam doesn' sink! I'm so proud.

Now let's hope it continues to work! lol

Sounds like a plan to me. Hope it works, too!
