Thought I would start a new thread...we came from here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/884341/#new .
We still have tons of the little ones and have not slowed down at all!!
In the spirit of the olympics I call this one "Going For the Gold"!
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 9
Stunning pic, Rose.
Gorgeous pics Rose!
Oh! WOWWW! Great shots Rose! I didn't realize they also like Nasturtiums! That's great, because I grow those for the White butterflies and now it can serve double duty! :-)
OMG Rose their outstanding!!!
What settings are you using (if you wouldn't mind telling us).
#4 is my favorite also, I love the way the feet are resting on the petals! Unbelievable the number you have Rose. I don't think I'll waste much time trying to get a decent shot of my one or two measly hummers this winter....they don't get any better than this!

Thats amazing; how many feeders do you have out Rose?
Thanks GP...that one really touched my heart when I saw it!
Pelle...I always shoot in AV mode with spot metering when shooting the birds. ISO was 400, f5.6 and the shutter speeds picked by the camera were 1/400 or 1/500 depending on the light. On the going for the gold the SS was 1/600. I think the ISO and f stop I used is my cameras "sweet spot" since I seem to have the best luck with that setting. If I am not using a tripod I at least use a bean bag to stabilize the camera. Thanks again,
I have 8 feeders, 4 in back that are the 32 oz and 4 smaller ones in front. They spend most of their time in the back but earlier in the season all the action was in front. I can't figure them out and have quit trying...I just do what they tell me to do and occasionally they will pose real pretty!
WOW!!!! You take the Gold Medal rose!!
Thanks Nanny...I'll tell DH..he thinks I've gone mad!!
Fantastic pics, Rose. I also love No. 4 :)
Dang, girlfriend! Now you are just showing off!!! Gorgeous. I give you a 10.0 in Olympic hummingbird photography. Please please do us the favor of entering these in the DG photo contest later in the year.

Ahhh ... what a sweet little hummie! So cute! Great shot!
Caption: "I'm too sexy for my roost…"
LOL! Too funny!!! :-D
You all crack me up!! Thanks again!
GM...looks like a very well behaved Juvie Male! Cute shots! I have a "feeling" that the ones in our area are getting ready to hit the road!
That #4 is my fave, too. Love the caption Mrs_Ed...
GM, is that red hanger above the feeder an ant moat? My humzinger ant moats dry out so fast. Does the other one stay filled longer?
Nice pics GM! I had a mature male here today but they don't stay long, just a quick fill up before continueing southbound.
Beautiful pictures Rose;,,
I think your right.....Some of the adults have already headed out.. A few still here but they should be heading in your direction any day now... The young ones will probably stay till the middle of September or later.. Last year I had two that didn't leave till the first week in October...
Maggie;,,
You need some more hummers to go with that feeder!!!... Nice shootin!!!
...Dave
Your little bird looks like he's just waiting for you to take his picture Grandmaggie! I think #4's my fav, too, Rose. Beautiful pic Dave.
Love the hummer photos everyone. Makes my day.
how cute is THAT, GM!
I fotgot what kind of camera you have Rose, but it sure takes wonderful pictures. You must be very pleased with it.
Thanks GP...I have a Canon 40D with a 100mm-400mm zoom lens. I am really happy with it but I have a hundred screw ups to one good pic. But I am still learning and I can take as many pics as I want and it doesn't cost a thing. The best hobby I've ever had!!
Nanny...that first pic is priceless...you can almost read the look on the little Hummers face!!
Love those two-fer shots...you sure get a lot of those!
