CLOSED: help! what is this Latvian bug?

I'm very new to the bug world and would be grateful if someone could identify these red and black bugs - i found thousands of them covering a tree in Latvia and i wonder whether they are harmful in any way... thanks so much!

It might be what is called a firebug, Pyrrhocoris apterus. Firebugs live in Europe but I don't know about Latvia specifically. I think it's in the family Pyrrhocoridae anyway.
