My name is Kelly and I do NOT have a flipping problem!
The Guess the Roo Game
Ok, guess we all gotta come clean....
My name is Peafowlanjl and I will be flipping fowl. Does it count if I flip Peafowl & not chickens??? tee hee hee
ha ha ha! : ) ROFL! My name is Christy.....I haven't had time to flip chicks.....yet.....
Hi, I'm Kristin, I'm a recovering chick flipper... I keep trying to stop, but its just so HARD!
Awwww. I want a chick to flip. :( Where's Silkie when we need her?? Shouldn't she head this help group??
How's TF? Hope everything's Ok with the dog/neighbor thing. It's been a while hasn't it? Maybe dog? She's always welcome in this help group...
TF, I keep hearing about dog and neighbor... what's the story there? Bad dog/bad neighbor/both?
Dog food is her chickens. Bad, bad Neighbor
Cranky abusive cop's dog's food is her chickens, I believe.
YUCK! That's no good at all! I was quite afraid of what our neighbors would think of our new flock, but so far they all seem to be OK. I even had Lacey fly into my back neighbor's yard last week. I was apologizing profusely, but they just laughed as she gave me a run for my money in their yard. ;-) Luckily they don't have pets, but if they go over the west fence the siberian husky will definitley eat them -- hopefully that won't happen, though.
rotfl, yep i guess i'm head flipper. i've been doing it for about 8 years now, something like that, lol.
cat, ur silkie looks like a girl from what i can see of it going by crest and shape of the body.
Yea!!!!! Thank you silkiechick!
u r welcome i just hope i'm right, lol. sometimes it is harder to tell on pics others post cuz of angles but mike thought girl also when i showed him. i didn't see streamers or hackle or saddle feathers either if it was a boy that should be seeable.
oh, so sorry everyone i forgot to take my cam today. it has been a very busy day today. i'll try to remember tomarrow for u.
(S)he sure is adorable Catscan!

She is! Not a great looking Silkie by the Standard and she shouldn't have survived--had severe wry-neck and crooked neck vertebrae as a chick. Recovered from the wry-neck with with vit E and Selenium. Neck vertebrae are still kinked, but she has so much personality and it doesn't slow her down at all. You can't tell unless you palpate her neck. I would never breed from her--not even sure what color she is--sort of partridge? But I love her a lot!
Did I understand from that that silkies are good brood hens? I need me one of them (to flip)I mean...
They are the "ne plus ultra" of broodies! Reason enough to have them!
i had to laugh that's my son camden's middle name, i love that name!! yes she is from a mixed colored flock and pet quality due to color but none the less still cute as a button all silkies r and she is a special little one so love her lots!.
i'm very surprised she is still alive most don't pull through that. i have gotten some in i hatched like that of a few breeds and all have died by 3mth old tops with just the vit E. what doseage did u give her of those and where do u get the selenium? that is one thing i definately would love to learn incase i ever need it again. i knew u were to use both but no clue dose for how long and the other where to find.
i admire u for standing by ur little one to do what it takes for her i know how hard it is trust me i've been there and heartbroken u get so attached to them. great job on helping her pull through ur an awesome momma!!!!
Hi silkiechick. She was the first chick I "helped" to hatch, so I felt very guilty when she started having problems. I think her neck kept her from being able to push the top off. Within 2 days it was clear she had wry neck. Head down, walking backwards, unable to eat or drink and very frustrated. I was trying massage, Poly-Vi-Sol children's vitamins, and "pulling" the neck for 3 or 4 days--all things I had read on the internet-- and she was just going downhill. Then I read about the Vit E/Selenium. Within 24 hours she had improved and in 2 days she was walking normally and has been fine ever since. I found Vit E/Selinium gel caps at the drugstore. You have to look for them--but they are readily available. I squeezed one capsule into about a tablespoon of mash mixed with warm water (I also put a drop of Poly-Vi-Sol in for good luck) and syringe fed her several times a day--she started eating it out of a teaspoon pretty quickly. The dosage wasn't too important since it was short term. She recovered completely within 5 days, but I kept it up for about 2 weeks. I've heard they usually don't relapse--though I don't know why since it seems to be a metabolic problem. It is suppose to work with older Silkies that suddenly show symptoms as well. The Selenium is critical.
She is so healthy and normal now--I am very glad I made the effort.
thank u so much that is a great help! i'm glad u did too!!
glad to hear Riley is a she. though i see some waddles there LOL...
speaking of wrenched neck, my Emu hatche dthe end of May, and he just seems to have stopped growing, could he need some more vit e/selenium?
my little black silkie is not well. i don't think he will pull through more than another day. both eyes now have colds. the others are huddled around to keep him warm. i am so sad. i also lost all the other silkies except one buff. she is in with the nankin and the ameracauna chicks...
hey, i can't belive i have been too busy medicating everybody to do any flipping.... i wanna be a flipper too... IMA FLIPPER, HES A FLIPPER SHES A FLIPPER WOQULDN'T YOU LIEKT O BE A FLIPPER TOO, BE A FLIPPER, GO OUT AND FLIP'EM...
i'm so jealous u got an emu!!!! pics where r the pics????
so sorry to hear about ur silkie, if it has a cold it should be issolated they can spread things like that quick! what have u been useing for meds for it?
they don't have colds. they have secondary infections from a bad chemcial drift two and a half weeks ago. pseudomonas bacteria confirmed in lungs, a superbug that no antibiotic can touch... so they are getting things to boost their immune system. jsut a waiting game for me. the Animal Health Commission wouldnt' even bohter with me. i thought perhaps it would be more humane to have them all gassed, but some may survive. and all are still isolated. still waiting on that written lab report...
NO EMU HERE! that is his name, becasue with no tail and a long neck, that is what he always looked like. i though he was a PB JG, but he is growing so slow he oculd be a cross with BA...
I AM A CHICK FLIPPER............... It works it works. I took one i knew was a she and felt for the V and then took one i suspect to be a he and i could tell the difference. Should have seen me hubby and dd's bf flipping chicks last night as we put them in their new home. YEPPERS got it built last night, now all i have to do is make the dividers, and lace the top of the day yard.
I am a chicken flipper and proud of it.
oh, shoot i forgot about the neighber thing, u were telling me that last time we talked or on messanger i forgot. i knew they had sprayed didn't know the babies were sick. have u tried tylan injections? some of the stonger ones should work for that. lol, u got me on that one. i wanna get an emu egg just to say i hatched it, i love the eggs!!!
so glad it worked for u, it just takes a little practice and once u know the difference u got it down pat! i'll try to get those pics done today too.
I know when I was flipping I felt something like very small knuckles(for lack of a better word) and used that as a reference to find the V
what is tylan? our state vet said nothing i could do, same with health Commission... have yet to get the official report back from the lab... they are doing better now with LOTS of garlic, why didn't i think of htat to begin with, sigh...
i got the silkies eyes open with natural tears dropper. hopefully it will work long enough for him to eat and drink...
tylan is an antibiotic for swine and cattle it is an injectable, it is the best one i'f found and fastest to work. it's what i use instead of the pwder solubale and it is stronger and so much cheaper to use. i use tylan 50 but it comes in 100 and 200 also. usually 1 shot a day for 2-5 days in enough sometimes just one clears it. i'd have to know how big the bird is and which tylan used to know the dosage though.
FIANLLY got them to tell me over the phone, twice it was mailed and returned??? they say they tested it for sensitivites and gave mea list of antibiotics, at least two of which i coudl get from the feed store.... would prefer shots to water, to be sure they all get it...
That's adorable! Makes me realize I should probably have a roost in the brooder box for my girls... whups, guess I better go work on that!
hey silkie chick! i REALLY need that link you gave with all those disease, i can't find it anywhere. sounds like the afflicted chicks may be ocming down with an eye problem, perhaps microplasma something.... i need info to determine if i have a second secondary thing going on that coudl be contagious as well...
thanks
tf
d-mail sent back TF.
oh love that pix! I just wish my chicks were bright enough to perch up high!
Great idea! They are too cute lined all up! They look like they are waiting for you to come along and feed them like a momma bird! When I talk my DH into more chickens in the spring I'll have to try that!
