Someone in town found this guy on a deck railing. Whats his name?

We are in southern Minnesota.

This is a female jumping spider (family Salticidae) in the genus Phidippus, possibly the bold jumper, Phidippus audax. They are active hunters, having excellent (for spiders) eyesight; specimens as large as this one are capable of inflicting a painful bite if mishandled. I think a good name for her would be Charlene.

suunto: how can you tell its a female from that shot? Just curious. i love jumping spiders, let them hang out all the time.

By her flirty smile ;-)
Seriously though, males have enlarged pedipalps and a more slender abdomen - see http://bugguide.net/node/view/3722

This one was only the size of a dime or so... Misleading with a macro lens.
