Storing Fennel Seeds

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Anyone have a method of saving and storing fennel seeds so that they can be planted in spring?

Thanks,

Chuck

I don't do anything special with mine. Leave them in a paper bag if they're still on the seedhead. If I've gotten motivated and they're totally dry and separate I put them in a zip lock bag. Then I store them somewhere on the cool side - my basement. I think cool storage is good for seeds in general. Damp is bad.

Hope this is what you were looking for!

This is exactly what I was looking for. What about storing seeds in the refrigerator (not freezer!)?

Thanks,

For most of my seeds, I haven't found it necessary. Some of them do require cold treatment in order to germinate and I either winter sow those or put them in the fridge for 4-6 weeks in the late winter. If you have the fridge space it wouldn't hurt to store your seeds in there.

But that might be the last straw that gets me banished to the garage forever! :)

I am very lucky to be married to my wife....she lets me put seeds in the refrigerator. I just take a little corner. Actually there are many other good traits that she has, too.

Thanks,

I can sneak some seeds in the fridge. My husband doesn't really look in there too much :) But the past few years I've gotten a little more, um, enthusiastic, about seed saving. I'm now up to shopping bags stuffed with paper lunch bags sitting around. Not to mention the paper plates covering the counters while the seeds are drying LOL!

And that's just the seeds. Then there are the bulbs, corms and tubers that have to be pulled and stored in my zone. And the cacti and orchids that have to overwinter inside....

My plan is to drive him crazy enough that I get a greenhouse!! (He knows my plan BTW)
