Sowing Wisteria Vine Seeds

Kodiak, AK

Hi,

Im new to this forum. I have a question about my Wisteria vine seeds. I placed them in a moist paper towel, then placed the paper towel in a zip lock baggy. Then I put the baggy on my heating pad. For a few weeks there has been no activity with the seeds, until now; I just noticed that one of the seeds is getting a white little stem. My question is; when I put this seed in a pot do I put the stem facing down in the soil and then cover the entire seed? Or do I put the seed in the soil with the stem sticking out of the soil?

Im a bit confused on whether the stem is the root or the leaf.

Thanks

Hi Raziel-

In general, the very first growth that is white is the root. The seeds put down roots first to collect water, and then they push out the cotelydons, which will be green. Most seeds will orient the root however you lay them on the soil. You could sprinkle a light layer of soil on top, but I don't think it's necessary. Wisteria is an easy seed to grow; I just stuck mine in a moist potting soil and left it under gro-lites.

Good luck!
