Photo Copyrights

Mesilla Park, NM

Just want to remind everyone that there is a copyright on all of my photos.

If you want to use them, I do not have a problem, but Please ask first and do not take my name off the photos to put your's on it, I took the photos and would like my own name to appear on them ... That is the only thing I ask. I would hope that this is completely understood especially to all ebay sellers.

I also know that several of you download them onto your computers, please, keep my name on my photos on there also.. I can provide you with more if you ask.

Gourd, when I catch someone on ebay stealing my photo's I email em and ask for an address to send a bill to for 100 dollars a day of use of my photo's without my permission. I also put my name in the pictures in a places that stick out like a sore thumb if you try to erase it.

A - I couldn't agree more!

I like your plan of defense, X! That's one way to foil any unapproved usage of your amazing photos! :-)

I have been an Ebay seller for years, and sadly... stolen photos happen all the time... I have even had my own original designs stolen, crafted, and then they have the audacity to use my photos... GAH !! I do complain to Ebay and I do let them know they are busted !!

I say go after those that steal you photos.. and nail em to the wall !!

Sorry if I sound so militant, but it is a sore spot with me...

Carolyn

Militant works for me.

One other option:

If you have problems with another website or an eBay seller using photos you've posted here (in our forums or in PlantFiles), please let us know. We have a two-pronged approach that works quite wel.

1) We have a formal letter that threatens legal action if they do not remove the photo(s) within a stated time period and confirm to us they understand and will not use any other photos from our site.

2) On rare occasion, an eBay seller will refuse to reply or remove the photos. Within eBay, I am registered with their VeRO program as an official representative for DG and PlantFiles. If I email a formal complaint to them and show them the original work on our site, the seller's auction is removed within a few hours.

The flip side of this: please don't "borrow" photos from anywhere else and post them in PlantFiles unless you have received prior permission to post them AND you uncheck the box when you upload it, so your watermark won't be imprinted on the photo.

Just as we will vigorously defend our member's copyrights on the work they share here, we don't want to find ourselves hosting stolen photos, either. (That situation is rare, but it is embarrassing to us and the member who posted the photo.)
