I'd call this a 'bad guy'; it's in the family Noctuidae, and looks suspiciously like a yellow-striped armyworm (Spodoptera ornithogalli) - see http://www.robsplants.com/images/critters/SpodopteraOrnithogalli040830.jpg
Agh. I agree. Wonder if that's who cleared out my mesclun this time....
