Mine look awful, no re-potting done at all. This is the longest I've ever waited to
start potting up. My Pink Jade, looking decent but no flowers.
Share your Cane Begonia pics
Looks good Jackie. Let's not talk about potting up - I put leaves down yesterday and then potted up over a dozen tonight plus move canes from the shady corner to a sunnier locale. It's almost like work.
Here is a new cane this year but I have no name for it. (It was sold as 'Lucerna' but we all know it isn't).
Butch, love the nice, dark leaves on your new cane. Good and Plenty cane has
dark leaves like yours but leaf shape is different. Regardless, I really like
your Begonia. Just a little partial to the dark leaved canes.
Sounds a lot like work to me. lol
We had several days at 104-105 the last
couple of weeks and even more at 100-102. It was awful. Temps
moderating back to the 90's this coming week. Never dreamed I
would be so glad to see 90's. lol
Jackie
I've had two 'Good 'N Plenty' begonias before and this new one isn't it.
I don't know if we've gotten into the 100's this summer but high 90's with little rain. We have had some pretty good rain recently which means the grass is growing once again (rats). Now we are cool (mid 60's in the morning) which almost makes me want to go put a lightweight sweater on.
Here is Silvermist after a rain.
Butch, Your Silvermist is a beauty. Mine has never reached potential.
I finally cut it back hard and it looks better. Then I failed to follow thru and give it
a bigger pot. I have an almost free day today and the humidity is lower.
So a good day to play catch up on repotting.
I had a Good n Plenty Beg but I killed it. LOL
Beautiful canes db.
Jackie
Thanks, I do have a weakness for them. My questions:
Alma Swisher and Winning Way won't bloom. I've threatened them with expulsion from the garden, but nada. Does anyone have luck with these two monsters?
I am looking for Pink Freckles. She was my favorite, but I lost her over the winter. Does anyone have a source?
Never mind, now that I look at both, it is obvious that the leaves are different. The one above has huge clusters of flowers. Any idea what she may be?
dbsmith your canes are georgissimous! I love the way you present many in an urn. They look very elegant. Do you fertilize weekly to get these huge blooms? If so with what?
BTW, your nursery it is Cowardly Lion that you have planted next to the second green planter.
Rosalie
Butch, I love your Sinbad and U177 looks great.
db, Some canes are very reluctant to bloom needing more sun and fertilizer.
Sophie Cecile comes to mind. Give your 2 reluctant canes more sun and blooming fertilizer, like 15-30-15 and see if that does the trick.
Ga girl, love the Orange Rubra, please rotate your pic so we can see it
better.
Jackie
GA- I don't know what your cane is, but it sure is pretty! My unidentified one can't be special angel - I've had mine before special hit the market.
Patootie - I moved Winning Way to the front of the house where it gets more sun. From leaf development, I'd say the spot is a hit, but no flowers. Maybe I'll move Alma too.
Truongr - It is Cowardly Lion in the nursery. I have a dosatron fertilizer injector, so I fertilize every time I water with a dilute solution of 17-3-17 peat lite neutral cal-mag from Peters. My city water, according to the analysis, is almost pure - no minerals, nothing. So the expert at Scott's said this was the fertilizer to use. It's my first year - I used to use the 20-10-20 peat lite special. My problem is that it has rained so much that I can't fertilize. The canes are usually much larger at this point.
Everyone think Pink Freckles!
How tall is Lady Brown? I love those blooms! And does your Silver Mist tend to get really leggy?
Is the first one Elizabeth Lahn? I rotate pictures before I post in the file folder where they are stored in my computer, but the kids had to show me how. Is the 3rd one Flamingo queen or matchmaker?
The 3rd one looks like Flamingo Queen. Matchmaker is a bit smaller and has paler blooms (almost white).
GAgirl, I am going to assume you are using some flavor of Windows and not a Mac. To rotate your pictures, right click on them and select rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise as needed if you are using thumbnail view. If you have associated opening your pictures with Picture and Fax Viewer then there are icons on the bottom to rotate or you can use CTL+L to rotate left or CTL+K to rotate right.
As for Lady Brown I don't know how big it gets. I got it in Houston at the ABS convention this year and it has doubled in size since mid May. I haven't had problems with Silvermist getting leggy either. I will prune canes when they get unsightly though.
Here is Irene Nuss after a rain.
Oh my gosh Butch, your Lady Brown is to die for.
Irene Nuss is looking gorgeous too
Ga girl, More pretty Begonia's. I love the one in post ending in # 475 above.
You are so right Jackie about Ga girl's post 475. I'd like to know what that one is. Striking silver patterns.
I think Ga girl's post #473 may be 'Lana'. I got a couple of those last year at HD and Pike's after I had ordered one from Kartuz.
Here is what I think is 'Lana' from last year (this is the HD plant).
Butch, Lana is a lovely Begonia. Nice shape too.
db, you might check out Mr Kartuz' website for Pink Freckles. Might have
seen it there. Is that one of Brads?
