Found this guy on my echinacea. Although I've only really seen them in the evening, his shape reminds me of a firefly. Is he a good guy, or should I watch out for him and his friends?

These basically are beneficial; they are soldier beetles (Coleoptera: Cantharidae), likely Chauliognathus pennsylvanicus, known as the Pennsylvania leatherwing - see http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/72/
Both adults and larvae are predaceous; the adults also may feed on pollen to some extent.
