tiG, maybe a spring azure caterpillar. They'll feed on dogwood. I haven't been able to find a picture of the caterpillar though. Here's the butterfly...

My book says the caterpillar is "slug-like" with variable colors. It also says that it exudes a honeydew that attracts ants. See any ants hanging around?
