Fibromyalgia & Gardening #2

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Birdie,Thank you for sharing with us. You were only on my prayer list. Think i'll keep you there. ; ) Glad you know all the ins and outs of depression.
It helps bigtime to have a psych that is a beleiver. I had one for 30 years in Texas. The one i have now, we talk science, which to me is the same thing. I agree about the meds too.I take celexia and plan to changeover to herbal meds gradually as i find what helps for different things. Sure takes a lot of research.
Counciling has stopped almost completely in the mental health field. It costs the psych clinics too much to spend a half hour or so with one patient. I'm lucky enough to find a clinic here that does councilng. I agree that it does more good than meds alone. Medicare pays for it.

A small city just west of us are taking in refugees from New Orleans (abt4000) There is an old armybase there. And has come in handy several times. Hope they stay safe and don't lose everything again.

LOL Carrie is something else!!! ; ) BTW the agencys that be would send me into shock if they realized i was something alive and not a number.

leaf, Are you still kneedeep in grape and applesauce?

Hope Steph is not drowned out down in Miss.
goodnight all,
Vickie

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

I sure am, Vickie. Today I took a coworker some grapes and apples and she pressed some of the tiniest 'plums' on me I have ever seen. And some of the most sour/bitter sauce & juice has come from them I have ever tasted from 'plums'. I mixed the sauce with the 3 qts of grape sauce in the 'fridge and will make note that it has to be sweetened. I think there were 18 1/2 pt. jars of the mixed sauce.
Same with the 8 pts. of juice. This afternoon I picked 2 5 gal. pails of grapes. I think I am almost thru picking them. That was the easy part. Tomorrow I start the stemming , washing, cooking, putting in jars, pressure canning, etc. I asked if I can please work Thur. instead of tomorrow so I can get these grapes done. The boss lady was very nice about it. She cans and freezes too so she understands. I am so thrilled that GOD has granted me the strength and energy to get this all done. It has been 4 years or more since I have been able to do any canning to speak of. What a wonderful feeling to know the family will have food for the winter months. . I've always liked gardening, harvesting and preserving. Strange tho, all of the children loved applesauce, grape juice and butter, etc. as children. Now they say they either just plain don't like it or only eat it a few times a year. I planted these trees and viines with them in mind!!! Providing for my family I said. Now most of them would rather starve than eat home canned or butchered food. Real bummer.

I need to get to bed. GOD bless and keep each of you.

Vickie - I am always so glad to know that someone is praying for me and I would love to be kept on your prayer list. I have asked (ea wk) for my small group from church (Calvary Chapel) to keep the ladies from my on line chronic pain support groups in prayer, so , be of good courage knowing that daily prayers are going to the Father in your behalf. ;-))
Hugs "gently way round the back" are sent to all of you
Goodnight,
Sheri.

Thank you, ladies, but I don't see how else to be. This is my spirituality - talking about studs and raised toilet seats, and sharing what I know about Universal Design!

By the way, thanks in part to my agitating, our old New England white clapboard church has become vastly more accessible to folks in wheelchairs over the last few years, particularly over this past summer. Apparently I can sing in the choir now! I have to wait until next Sunday to find out for sure.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Way to go, Carrie. I pray you can get to sing in the choir.

I keep trying to sit down and rest for at least a few minutes at a time. I'm to tired and shakey to sit for long or lie down. And the juice is in the pressure canner. Lots of pulp to put thru the strainer and canned. THEN maybe I can relax a bit.

GOD bless and keep each of you.

Hello everyone from a very wet central mississippi, I keep singing rain rain go away and stay. This has been the wettest August on record without hurricanes. They just keep coming. I am not on the coast or in danger or anything just trying to build a house. ( Well, hubby doing the work) I just assist in the way of food and water at this point. Once we get to inside I can help more. I can use sander and do other small jobs, stain, paint etc. But we can't do that until we get the tin on. It just will not stop raining. I know there are people with more serious problems and I am praying for them. I especially pray for those in direct path of the hurricanes. I hope none of our DG buds are in danger. Well, I guess I will go do laundry or some other chore. Maybe? I hate house work. I want to be outside. Love and prayers, Steph

Bad day today...having so much fibro pain. Didn't do any gardening, but did do a lot of running errands today. Started out by taking DH to work so that I could have the car. Came home, checked some email, then left to meet with the Chief of Police at 9 am regarding safety issues for our church's Pumpkin Patch in October. From there I drove over to the church with the intent to teach our church secretary how to use MS PowerPoint, unfortunately she didn't even have it on her computer; on my way out I met the pastor & his wife who said they would load it up onto her computer; left there and stopped at church member's home to see how she was doing and collected some of her Cleome seeds. She has MS and is in a lot of pain right now. Drove back home to let the dog out, turned around and drove out to Lowe's, the bank, and Kroeger's. Then home to let out the dog again and unload & put away groceries. Gosh.....no wonder I hurt!!!! I didn't realize I had done so much until I wrote it all down!

Had to pick up DH at 5 p.m., make supper, and now I'm here. Will be leaving shortly to go to choir practice. Tonight's gonna be an Advil night.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

That would be about 12 hours too long for me, and way too much pain for Advil. You did a lot - congratulate yourself, JoAnn!

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Wow, JoAnn, that is a lot of running for one day. No wonder you will need Advil. Are you sure you don't need anything else?

It has been raining off and on, mostly one I think, all day. I have no idea how much we've gotten. But it all seems to be soaking in as it comes down. Of course we have full puddles in the drive.

GOD bless and keep each of you.

Lena, MS(Zone 7b)

Joann, You really had a rough day and I pray you have a good rest tonight. You make me hurt just listening. I drove about 80 miles or so today, went to see mom in nursing home. I only got in and out of car twice and I am tired. I know you are hurting. Fibro has a hold on my body but I am trying to hang on to my mind.LOL. I was wondering if any of you have seen my tail, I feel like I lost it some where along the way. My back is numb feeling almost like it is asleep yet it hurts down deep. It is time for another epidural I guess. Have a good night everyone and tomorrow try to do about half of what Joann did today and you will have accomplished alot. It is too much to do Kroger and Lowe's in one day for me. Much less all the rest.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

LOL! Did everyone hear Steph say "rain rain,go away"? and it headed straight for leaflady and me.

Jo Ann, you really had a busy day. A pumpkin patch sounds like fun. I confess i'm ignorant. Whats a pumpkin patch? I mean i know what a pumpkin patch is. but what is YOUR pumpkin patch?

I drove 80 miles today too but 60 of those miles are just to town and back. Went to Freds for canned boiled peanuts for my SIL. To Doller General for a few grocerys and to walmarts for the rest of grocerys and an umbrellow.(SP) Also had to go to bank and register my car and get a handicap thing added to my license. Maybe they are going to crack down on people without handicap tags parking in handicap spots.
GS 28th birthday is next week and we are going to make him a cake and special dinner.
His favorite meal is pizza but we think a small steak with all the trimmings is what he'll get. Us too yummmmm!

DD from TX went along for a couple of things. She says she's gaining weight up here.Probably not. She's one of those skinny minnies, unlike the rest of us.

Carrie hope you get to sing in the choir. I use to and plan to again when i get to heaven. God willing.

Can't sleep again, having trouble breathing. Think it's the humidity maybe. I'm up alot at night for various reasons.
Hope everyone is sleeping good and knowing we can make it ok.

Well, I took 4 Advil .... nothing else helps, not even Celebrex... a Lunesta pill and managed to get about 4 hours of sleep. Still hurt, but not as bad as last night. Got some good endorphins going in my body after watching America's Got Talent, listening to Sarah Palin's speech, and saying my prayers.

Vickie,
This is actually our first year of having this type of fundraiser, but if you go to http://www.pumpkinsusa.com/ it will explain what it is about. In a nutshell, on Oct. 18th a big rig will pull up into our church parking lot and deliver up to 800 pumpkins, as well as, gourds, indian corn, and corn stalks. During a two week period we will sell pumpkins from 10a.m. until 8 p.m. Also, at mid-point, on October 25th, we will have a Fall Festival to which the entire community is invited. We'll have contests, entertainment, petting zoo, photo areas, hay rides, and even a Master Chef demonstrating pumpkin recipes. It's gonna be so much fun! More details at our website:

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well and enjoying your gardening. My mom had to be transferred from nursing home to hospital yesterday due to her blood sugar going over 400. Her blood pressure dropped to 60 on top and I did not catch the lower number but by the time I got to the ER it was 101/50 and BS was down to 316. She had severe urinary tract infection that they think caused it all. So I will be running back and forth for the next few days checking on her. Please keep her in your prayers she is also depressed about being in nursing home. She had a stroke about 4 years ago at 64 and is paralyzed on left side. I think she had fibro but she denies it. But she can't stand for them to turn her in bed because it hurts so much. I just wanted to check in and see what was going on with you all. This is what is going on in my world today. Love and prayers, steph

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Oh Steph, Your poor mom. My prayers for sure are coming your way as well as my thoughts and sunflowers too.
My blood sugar went up that high when i was hospitalized in May with Kidney stones. Not fun.

Steph, try to take care of yourself in between trips back and forth. Hope you can get some rest.
Vickie

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I concur with Vickie - what your mother is going through is awful for both of you, but you need to take care of yourself and stay strong, if only so you can be strong for her. My thoughts are with both of you today.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Infections do that to blood sugar levels. The systolic(top number)of only 60 is dangerously low. I'm glad it came back up so quickly. What is her normal blood sugar? Some people just normally run levels that are considered abnormally high while for others 400 is nearly comatose. My Jack was diabetic for over 43 years. Insulin dependent most of that time. Huge doses of insulin because he was insulin resistant.

Strokes can also cause pain in the rest of the body. It is known as the Brown's syndrome if I remember correctly. Some of you who are nurses with more recent experience than I have will know more about that. I was in Geriatrics & Geriatric CVA rehab most of my limited experience. Nursing home life can be very depressing for people who have always been independent and active. I can understand her feelings. If we can make ourselves mentally & emotionally walk in each others shoes for a while we will be more understanding and compassionate. Those are qualities I see here in everyone on this forum. GOD is using us to be lights in a world where darkness in so many forms seems to prevail in so many ways. JESUS ministered to the poor, the sick, the unwanted and social outcasts far more than he did to the religious. The religious people didn't think they needed HIM, the rest knew they did.

GOD bless and keep you, Steph, and all the rest of you.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Do you think we - actually, I think i'll move this question to the other thread.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

EEk!? WHat other thread?? I want to know the question.

Sheri

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL, Sheri! The "what majkes us different?" thread, and it was a knee-jerk question I had in reaction to leaflady's comment.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

OK now Carrie...I am easily cornfused and that link took me back to the August 14 thread opener...........uhh, what do I do

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

I'm starting a new thread on this one too. Hope to see eveyone over there.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Where is everyone? Thread # 3 has no replies and this one is silient for nearly 10 days. Is everyone ok? Am I in the twilight zone by myself?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

NO, of course not! I'm right here, just working hard on an article and then another one. (You would think a fictional article, where I get to make everything up, would be easier than a research type one, but it's not!)

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Carrie, everyone hits writer's block whether on fiction or research. I wish you the best on both articles.

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

Maybe .like me, many only check a thread when there is a new entry. I notice that there isn't a link to the new thread. That is what I depend on as my "road map for following a thread when it is continues elsewhere.
Perhaps a "hyperlink" to the new place will get back those of us that you have been missing.
Just a thought
Sheri

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

The #3 thread leaflady speaks of is here. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/902028/

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Thanks, Carrie.
