My rust problem is (Fingers crossed) hopefully now in control!! I followed Emma's adviced and stripped not only infected leaves, but all leaves. I started spraying with neem and then changed over to daconil, every four days. I finally found Bayers 3 in 1 and really watered with it. Look at me now!! New leaves coming in beautiful and green, no signs of rust! The only problem that I have now is I'm not getting any seeds!! What can I do for this?
Melanie
Look at me now!!
Try phosphorus bloom booster and trace minerals via liquid kelp or some other trace mineral booster...
Hand pollinate to increase chances of seeds...

WAY TO GO - YOU DID IT!
And, they look great!
I would also do as Ron has suggested - works every time.
You go girl!
Emma
PS:
It would probably be good to also SPRAY your leaves with Bloom Buster as well with Joy Liquid Lemon Scent Detergent mixed in - but wait a week or so.
Melanie they sure look pretty now!

Nice to see Heian no Umi again - that was one of my favorites last summer, too, from Shirley1md. Like all my nils last year, after the first round of leaves were done in by rust, another round of leaves and vines appeared and were pretty for a while, but rust eventually found those, again - didn't spray for it but still had incredible huge floaty flowers and a few pods. When planted in the garden, those secondary vines made curtains as they hung down from the cross bar or arch above...maybe the extra aeration helped...
Melanie, your Miko Mai is climbing up its string here over some blue lobelia siphilitica and caryopteris - can't wait to see it flower - love those variable contrasts of rich dark fuchsia/pink against the I-can-barely-see-the-pale-pink in addition to the variable patterns of line and wedge - thank you
Oops - cross posted - great blooms - I'll be very curious to see how the China Doll and Shibori (looks just like the Hama no Ginga that Emma sent you) that I sent you turn out, too -
Melanie -
JUST AWESOME
You should tag this bloom of your Hama no Ginga and hope for seeds from that bloom to grow out again.
It is incredible!

Melanie - Your Hama no Ginga is gorgeous! Love all those colors showing up in the blooms! Very, very nice!!! Congrats on beating the rust! :-)
Melanie -
Tell us about your GROW BAGS - or is that what they are called?
You sent me a couple and I haven't tried them yet and can't remember all you told me about them.
You can see them in this photo

A very clever idea when you don't have large enough pots.
Emma
Melanie . . .
Found some links on GROW BAGS -
I would still like to hear if you like these enough to continue to use.

I'm curious what your thoughts are on Coconut Fiber as a Growing Media

Thanks all!
Emma, the grow bags are wonderful! They are really affordable, takes up less space, holds moisture really well but does have drainage holes, white on the outside and black on the inside.During the hot summer the white reflects the heat. They come in many different sizes. I have many of my brugs planted in them. I got my bags online at Worm's Way.
As for seeds....I'll tag it but don't hope for much. I'm not getting many seeds at all! Except for Joseph's Xiong and Emma's Heian no Akatsuki, they seem to spit them at me when I walk by. LOL!! I have done everything that everyone has suggested and still no luck.
Karen, the Shibori, that you sent went with the wind during the bad storm that we had, along with some others. I went back and looked for the China Doll and can't find that one.
Melanie
Melanie, your blooms have been gorgeous this year. Great idea about the
grow bags
Melanie . . .
Thanks for the info on the Grow Bags.
HuH!
Your plants went flying away?
Looks like we need to figure out a way to anchor those Grow Bags!
I too am not getting as many seeds as I normally do, but I can see that changing in the last few days - hopefully for you too. Don't give up! But first, you need to find your plants *-*
Emma
LOL!! Emma, we had a very BAD storm this past spring. All of my JMG were babies in 4" bags. Everything that wasn't nailed down went with the wind. The bigger grow bags stayed put. I just have to say that I love them!!
edited because I can't spell this morning.
