sun verses shade

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i have morning glories in morning sun here where its been a daily water routine and they are blooming up a storm even though look like dying.

i have some in shade( think afternoon sun) that look wonderful but aren blooming. gonna give bloom boost to see if helps.

was wondering how much sun plays a part in blooming and will they still bloom in shade or part shade.

my stricocardia are in the shade and look fantastic but hasnt bloomed yet

and my pink moonvine and ppandurata are in shade and have always bloomed.

any veiws on this

My experience with certain species is that they need sun for several hours to produce flowers. Though I know there are some species that can still bloom in partial shade. Most of what I grow are I. nils and they like sun. (Morning sun, afternoon shade.) Sun and Bloom Booster seems to help mine become a wall of flowers!

This is a Japanese morning glory that I grew out the earlier part of the summer. (It was named Mutant Blue Needle Leaf Nanding. I don't know how the name came to be.)

The general rule of thumb is that Morning Glories always prefer morning sun and this is reflected in the professional literature...there may be instances where a plant or species will bloom in shade or with enough afternoon sun,but generally morning sun is preferred by the plants...

The night blooming plants may not be as particular as to the time of day the sun shines on them as the preference for morning sun is related to how the plants have evolved in relation to nectar production and pollinator activity...

Hope that helps...
