All hail the awesome and all powerful chicken fairy, whose help I am sure was instrumental in the rescue of Allie.
I will get some cottage cheese on my way home after work. :-)
HELP!!! CHICKEN CRISIS!!!
CMoxon,
The pea comb indicates 1) Game Fowl or possibly 2) Ameraucana. The black color & the white ear patch indicate a breed descended from those who are from Iberian Peninsula Leghorn, Andalusian, Minorca, NJ Giant ... a very long list. I'd go with a Game Fowl & Black NJ Giant cross. Once you see her eggs you'll have a better idea. If she is an AmeraucanaX ... her eggs would be olive drab. The yellow legs can come from several of the breeds.

Thanks Kelly! I think the pic might be slightly misleading. I went to look at her again as I left to go to work. Her comb is sort of flopped over to the side. I didn't notice that so much when I took that pic. So it's still very small, but the part you see in that pic is the front and the rest of it is flopped over to the other side. Is that a "single" ?
cmoxon,
The tiny little noodle of a comb is representative of the Ameraucana and Game Fowl. There are several breeds with these itsy bitsy combs. The white spot on the lobe and the yellow legs are definite traits of a white egg layer. Most of those Iberian Peninsula breeds have tall singular combs and yellow legs.

Happily comb genetic is simple enough to use in biology classes (although things may be a little more complicated than they sound). Here is a nice site (I love nice sites! Unless they involve arabidopsis:0():

my first thought was Andalusian, or Blue Andalusian shwoing black... but being a cross would explain the comb.
Allie is a beaut! now get that girl soem treats!
yeah! Allie is safe and secure in her home! tee hee...
oh and I love that name Allie! are you really gonna keep that name?
I've changed Dinners name to K-Bob for now... til he/she shapes up! lol!
Yup, keeping that name! I still haven't named the little barred rock. I'm not sure if she's "pure" barred rock. She's more brown than black with white. I am working on a name for her. This morning I fed all of them bread and wild carrot tops. They seem to love the wild carrot foliage. I also found them a juicy caterpillar in the garden when I was picking my zucchini.
The full names are:
Miss Henny Penny of Halifax Hen Manor (short = Henny Penny or HP)
Miss Alcatraz Diva of High Flying Farm (short = Allie)
Miss _____________________________
Here's her pic. I need a good name.
Dappled Diana of Dame Claire's Menagerie?
I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!
If only menagerie started with a "D" she'd really kill me....lol
he he he
How about "domain" instead of "menagerie"? Keeps the -- what is it? alliteration?
I like that to.
OK, Claire. Now you just have to change your name to Daphne.
Much better!! I gave up after only coming up with "Dive" and "Dump" -nofunatall.
Ohhh! A lovely name indeed! Dappled Diana of Dame Claire's Domain! Fun!!
You're not willing to go that extra mile and get it legally changed to Daphne, are you, Claire?
It's all in a good cause after all...
ROTFL....I think I'll pass on that option. I know it's a good cause, but I fear it would confuse my coworkers and family quite considerable.
We could have had Classy Chloe of Claire's Clucking Clutch....
Yea and now say that 3 times. I like that to.
As long as I don't have to say it 3X fast it sounds wonderful!
lol, and you can call her Cee Cee for short! or Dee Dee!
I'm still working on names for mine :( have Dottie and Goose (AKA KBob or Dinner!) but still need 2 more names...
