I am watching this storm...would be glad to get rain tho...not the wind dept.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

send some of that rain up my way please. All ya'll be safe.

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

It looks like it may come ashore where we could see some rain from it, if we're lucky. 107 in Dallas yesterday, with the same predicted for today. Only 105 here yesterday. I hate to see my water bill this month.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I will love the rain but not the wind. Not going to complain much just ride out what ever happens. Not to far from the predicted area and on the dirty side. But not 75 miles an hour like they had predicted.

Stay safe everyone.
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Hope that thing slows down and doesn't cause real damage. But parts of Texas could use clouds and rain. Hope you guys in north Texas get a break. I really feel for you. Those temps can do harm to people and plants both!

Brazoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I'm a little west of it but closer to Freeport. I certainly don't need the wind, but could use the rain. any amount, doesn't matter, just don't want to get on the ark. I'm having a problem deciding what to do with all my brugs in the ground. I have about 20 in bloom and don't want to lose the whole trunk due to the wind. any suggestions?

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Right now, the projected path is directly overhead. Not looking forward to the wind, but boy do we need the rain. Aside from the little we got when Dolly came ashore, we have had months without rain. The pasture grass, now mostly brown, is almost gone. If we don't get rain, there won't be any hay this winter. I hope those closer to the coast are safe.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Susie, if the Brugs have a standard form, Home Depot or Lowe's should have metal stakes. Drive the stake dawn deep next to the trunk. Tie the trunk to the stake beginning at the very bottom and wind it on all the way to the top uncluding at least the first "Y". Remove all leaves and buds. Bare branches don't offer much wind resistance which is what you want. Hopefully, the stake will provide enough bracing to keep the trunk from snapping.

Brazoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Thanks, girl.....
I'm on my way outside to take care of it. I have some metal stakes that I can use, didn't even think about them.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

It's been hot here today. I've been moving planters and yard art so that there will be no projectiles in the yard. Got the grass mowed this afternoon. It won't look like it tomorrow, but I figured it would be better to mow it while it's dry than to have to wait until the anticipated rain dries out and it's grown another 4 inches.

We're hoping for rain, but no winds. We had a pretty gusty rainstorm blow through here yesterday afternoon.

I hope this storm doesn't slow down because it would just pick up more power if it does. It looks as though we are on the outer bands now, but that could change at any time.

Wishing everyone rain without wind damage!

Janet

Wharton, TX(Zone 9a)

Looks like this storm is coming right over my town. I have moved everything out of the yard into the garage and the house. Mostly lots and lots of plants in pots. I'm just hoping the power doesn't go off. It is soooo hot and steamy here. I got my hand fan ready..tee hee hee. My brother who lives a couple of miles away was on a ladder putting up boards on his windows.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

It doesn't appear that we should get too much of anything from this TS but these depressions are wicked and varied as to what they can do. We got a good little thunderstorm a few minutes ago - more noise than rain - but I see from the Ch 2 maps that more are headed at us. We have everything moved indoors but the plants will have to fend for themselves. No animals to worry about. We could certainly use the rain as could all of y'all. Let's hope that nothing but good comes from this TS.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

It appears to be headed north into Louisiana. That should weaken it. Looks like we may not get anything at all....

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Oops. Turning west again, along the coast.

(Nadine) Devers, TX(Zone 9b)

Well it is raining outside my patio doors. I am glad we are getting rain, I see very little wind with my outside porchlight on right now....

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I've been up for about an hour and a half. It's been lightly raining here too. I've heard only 2 major claps of thunder. I can hear the heavy windchimes I forgot to take down now and then, but for the most part, I think this will just be a heavy storm for most of the day. Nothing like Rita. I've been watching channel 6 and James Brown doesn't seem too concerned.

Anytime there is a tropical storm here, we are reminded of the devastation of Rita so it's always a good idea to be prepared. Weather is so unpredictable.

Took some videos of the storm this morning.

Not nearly as bad as we feared it would be, but still quite a bit of wind.

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm glad it's not causing y'all any trouble in the Triangle. We are just getting a nice gentle, much needed, soaking rain. I came through Beaumont on Sunday on the way home from NOLA and thought about y'all. It's neat to drive through different towns and think "Oh such and such from DG lives here!" LOL

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Janet, your video is what we are getting here minus the wind for which I am thankful. This nice soaking rain is great for the gardens and a good time to take a nap which I am about to do. Thanks

Ann

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

It's nice to be thought about Jojo. I think the worst is over for us. You all may be getting a bit more of it though as it heads northward. (according to Al Caldwell, anyway)

Ann, glad you didn't have any winds to go with that rain.

I watched as my stubby tailed squirrel ran across the power lines this morning. The wind and rain was making it slick, I'm sure. He almost toppled a few times. I didn't have the camera in hand at that time though. Would have made a cute video.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello Joey in Conroe. Nice little rain we're getting here. I've been in far worse "scattered showers".

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi Ceejay, yes,a nice little rain until a few minutse ago. It has been a steady drizzle, bit now we have gotten about a half inch in about the last 20 minutes. We are now getting puddles in the yard, the rain guage is almost at 1 1/2 inches. Too much at once! At least we are not having tie winds that we had the other day. The satellite dish just went out. It goes at the slightest moisture, lately. I guess it will give me time to get some other things done IN THE HOUSE. I prefer to be outside .

Enjoy the showers!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Annette! Our rain is very light right now, with just a little bit of wind and gusts. Really quite nice. Seems you are getting it worse than we are.

New Waverly, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, the rain guage is right smack on 2 inches now! I was hoping to get just a drizzle. all day long. It's been really dry, here. Not really complaining, but want it to last a while, so we can get some real benefit, instead of refilling Lake Conroe!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey Joey! I see that it's your birthday today! I hope you have a great day! It looks like the storm isn't going to ruin it.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Rain! I've got rain!! I can't believe it...was starting to forget what it looked like...lol.

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you CeeJay! It has been a nice rain today it was actually one of the things I asked for my birthday LOL.
I'm with you Blue, I had to rub my eyes and do a double take today!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

My most recent water bill is $320. and it ain't over yet. No rain in Dallas until probably Oct.

Sure glad somebody got it though.....and not a storm to go with it.

Christi

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

The bill I just paid was $395, and that didn't include the week we were out of town and the sprinkler guy had set one of the stages on 3 hours. I can't wait to get the next one.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! Those bills will eat you up! But everything is going up. I hate to go to the grocery store also. Everytime it seems like some prices went up higher than the last time. And gas...well, I don't know how long we can keep paying for it. It's going down, but not anywhere near enough.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hate to be such a gripe. We are on SS. Trying not to draw too much from our investment. It will run out long before we expect to die. yuck

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

We've had a nice drenching shower almost all day. It's 10 pm and still sprinkling. I share my plants with my dbf in Copperas Cove and they have had nothing. I asked him to tape Eureka for me bec. the rain was interfering with the satellite. You should have heard the comments, lol. I know not really funny for them. All my northern transplanted plants are suffering terribly up there. I'm just so grateful for this even if we go back to nothing tomorrow, this was nice today.

Anne

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I've been enjoying the cool air that came in with Edouard. The rain hasn't been too bad most of the day. We did catch another heavy downpour for a bit this evening, but then it was gone.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I heard on the radio this morning that we have a 13 inch deficit in rainfall this year so far.

Joey in Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I can believe it! It's so nice to see my poor plants all happy and perky for once!!

Wharton, TX(Zone 9a)

Not much of anything happened here. Not even much rain fell which we could really use.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, to my surprise, over an inch of rain fell again this morning. I feel spoiled now.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Yesterday was unbelievable w/the storm and all. We got a good soaking rain for which we are thankful. I got a good mad on because of the "the sky is falling" attitude of the media about the storm which turned out to be just a wonderful soaker. At 8:30 am I called my Dr's office to get them to call in a refill for the pain medicine I need for my new hip. (I have progressed from the bed thru the wheelchair to the walker -Hurrah!! - and altho I can walk darn good it still hurts enough to need pain medication.) I was completely out of pain meds and knew I would need this stuff within the next 6 hours. The Dr's Assistant"s phone took the msg so I just waited. When I didn't hear anything in 4 hours I called again. Same result.
Another 4 hrs. the same result so I decided to be proactive and not take this kind of treatment any more (and besides, I was in pain again). My Dr is in a group of Drs. I know the names of several of these Drs. and they are on one floor of a small building within a 2 minute walk of each other. Everytime I called a Dr. theirs Assistant's voice mail picked up. I was at my wits end when I decided to call the central appointment office for the group. Voila!! When I told her of my plight she said they were so busy on the phone today. I asked why. Dead silence..... She said as if I were a complete dunce that everyone was calling to see if they were open, or canceling because of the "storm" or all sorts of things. Again I asked why. This time she got down to business and told me to do what I had done several times that day - call the Dr's A. etc, etc. When I told her again that it wouldn't do any good she said SHE would call. Lo and Behold! The A. answered by telling me the med. was ordered. Were they all huddled in the central hall waiting for the sky to fall or something? And "officials" and "media" wonder why we the "public" fail to take them seriously after a fiasco such as this: "could come in as a hurricane"; "take extra precautions" and the like. All that is required is to use common sense and READ the real facts and STUDY what is going on and not worry when some storm is out there.
Off the soap box now but just remember when you panic and others panic over something, it can cause gridlock and people who really need help suffer.
Thanks for listening.

Ann
