Blue Moonflower?

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hello, does anyone know of a blue moonflower, not a morning glory, but a blue evening/night blooming version of Ipomoea alba?

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

this flower has been rumored and rumored to be true but to my knowlegde never been proven or seen one yet.

its been discussed here a few times and people say they have seen it but no pics or proof.

i have heard of a yellow moonvine but havent seen it yet either.

i know of the pink moonvine and alba and lavendar but the blue one i havent ever seen a pic of as would love to have one.

Me too! Ipomoea alba is on my wish list (otherwise know as Trade list: wants), but I would love a blue one.

There are mentions of blue Ipomoea alba in some very old flower catalogs and there were some old packets on ebay that showed a distinctly blue colored Ipomoea alba...the packet pictorial was an illustration however and not an actual photo...

I think it is possible (although unlikely) that a blue Ipomoea alba existed...

There are many night flowering species in the Morning Glory Family that have not yet entered into common cultivation and I always strive to facillitate the introduction of new species...

There are most definitely colored species of moonvines in addition to the

Ipomoea macrorhiza

Ipomoea turbinata

There are 2 species of moonvines native to the continental US

Ipomoea tenuiloba
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/139597/
and Ipomoea thurberi...both have white and lavender-purple forms...

There is an Ipomoea calantha purple moonvine native to Puerto Rico, but many of the rare species grow in remote areas not easily accessed by tourists...

There is a small moonvine from China with a yellow star pattern along the primary folds

Perhaps given time and increased gardening skills we may be able to increase the diversity of species available to us...

Ron - The yellow star pattern Evening Glory is gorgeous! I couldn't get over the cluster of buds on it! WOW! Too bad they aren't selling them on that site. Really, really pretty! Maybe they will become available in the near future now that they have been discovered.
