Cotton! Got it at the SFA plant sale.

How cool Rose, I've seen so much lately of cotton being grow as an ornamental. I may need to get me one of those, a sentimental reminder of my my West Texas roots
:0)

The plant is loaded with bolls. Ought to be outstanding once they all open, if they do, they seem to be just sitting there.

Any other August plants?

Do fried plants count? Lol.... All of my stuff is just trying to stay alive right now in this 105F heat, especially since I cannot run the soaker hoses right now due to a water bill dispute.

So glad others are growing cotton. I've had some in my gardens for several years. Even had some brown cotton one year. (Not as pretty as the white). It is blooming up a storm here in Houston and a couple bolls have already opened into white puffy cotton.

Just so you know....

The Cosmos and Esperanza are still going like crazy. (Please ignore the dead looking Black Eyed Susans in the foreground.)

I miss my rock rose! I dug it out this spring because it was in the wrong place. I still have several volunteers coming up, though, and I've saved LOTS of seeds. I must plant one again next year!

It is an awesome plant, especially for xeriscaping! Here's mine from last September. It was huge and had really outgrown the location I'd originally planted it, so I need to find a better place for one. I have lots of places to choose from in my back yard.

Well talk about timely. Snapped this rock rose just before logging on. I didn't know they came in different colors. Those purple rr's are lovely.

My maternal GP's were sharecroppers in their early times and would be amused or amazed over the ornamental value of cotton.

Sure looks like mine. I don't have mine labeled. I'm just now learning labeling's a good thing.

Plac., What is the name of that ginger? My predecessor her left me tons of it and I haven't the vaguest idea of the name. If anyone is near and wants some, I have plenty to spare - just come dig it.

plantladyhou, the name of the ginger is Curcuma Petiolata, but I always refer to it as hidden ginger, it is easier to remember.
I wish that I was closer to your home because I would love to have a few more plants . Their foliage is very nice too. That is so generious of you. thanks

When I told DDH that I had written you asking the name of that ginger he asked if I also asked you how to make it stand above the foliage! I told him it was the nature of the beast to remain hidden. He opined that the flower are pretty but you can't see them and would rather have some where you could see the flowers such as shell gingers, etc. Tough! We've got what we've got that that's that! There are some other gingers here in the yard but they haven't bloomed yet that I have seen so there is still hope that we have some visible ones. Thanks for the name.

My Hummingbird Sage has also started blooming. The funny thing about this is that I have these bright, bright pink flowers and one plant with very pale pink flowers! Haven't been able to get a good pic of the pale pinks yet. Planted these from seed early this spring.
