Welcome to Toadville!

Southwest, VA(Zone 6a)

I just started this toad villa, minature garden, from goodies from a fairy garden swap. It's not quite finished, I have one side of the tree left to plant. And excuse the mess, construction was halted on account of rain.

Here's a picture of the front...

That is so cool. Do you have a toad yet?

Southwest, VA(Zone 6a)

I have a bunch of toads hopping around the yard, but none has taken up residence in the toad house yet (I don't think). I've been working on this on/off for a week, so I think I'm scaring them off for now. I hope to finish by this weekend and maybe get a toad tenent soon.

That toad abode is fantastic. I think I especially like the "pool" that you designed for it. I even like that you used a water colored tile, but used a taupe grout. The color of the tile looks like blue water, but the grout is colored enough that it will not show dirt, and look dirty...fantastic
That will definitely attract them!

I plugged in a water feature recently, and had a toad hop in there, within hours! :0)

He is now in there every single day, along with others that come by to take a quick dip, but one in particular is there every day. I'm sure you will have a resident very soon.

Great job!!

Ooooh, he's pretty!!

Seedpicker, Love the toad pic!!! He's beautiful and looks like a healthy guy! I have a friend that has one of my toad houses and she placed a pot saucer of water out for a pool. She says there's a 'toad-for-all' out there every evening as they all want to soak up the water (it's how they drink). I hope I'm that lucky!

I can't get enough shade or cover for my toad villa. The big oak it's positioned under has lots of huge roots, so I can't dig too deeply. Any suggestions on tall growing plants with shallow roots that like a bit of water and a some shade?

I've just discovered meehania cordata...you might want to give it a thought:

Thanks Sallysblooms!

It rained on/off again today so Toadville is still unfinished, but a few others things got done that I'd been neglecting.

Girls, I have a few froggies, too! I just recently started collecting frogs, gnomes and fairies. I've started a fairy kingdom, the trouble is, every time I find something cute, I have to add it, and as it's on top of my sewing machine, I'm running out of room! This is some of it!

Audrey, you are going to have to get a mini garden started soon!! You have so many goodies to make a really nice one!!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I have stuff outside, too! I have a frog in a hammock, and a toadhouse. I also have 3 frogs on a shovel, and 3 frogs with a welcome sign. I have 4 frogs a swap buddy sent me, and several gnomes! The grass is hollering about space to grow!!

Southwest, VA(Zone 6a)

Whoah Audrey, you have enough goodies for a toad, fairy and gnome universe, haha. Who needs the grass, less to mow if you have the yard installed with miniature stuff and a touring path!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I don't have to mow, anyway! I'm having so much fun with this!

Southwest, VA(Zone 6a)

I'm having fun, too. It has become a mini obsession with me though, and I didn't need any more, lol.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Me, too!! I want everything I see!!

Southwest, VA(Zone 6a)

Do you have a picture of your frog in a hammock? I thought about making one for toads out of some vinyl tablecloth material.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'll take one. I got mine at Wal*Mart on sale for $10.00. I got the last one they had, the rest were pigs! They're called "Snoozers".
Not a very good shot, but the sun was bright!
