Hi,
I just planted these Begonia's in my front garden and they were doing great until today. When I woke up They were all wilted. Could it be too much rain? Sun? What can I do to revive them if anything?
Please advise.
Begonia RX
First of all those look like New Guinea Impatiens and not begonias.
How long have you had them in the ground? If it has been several weeks and this is the first time they wilted then I would guess the problem is the soil being too dry. Have you checked the soil moisture?
If you recently planted them and the soil is moist then they are probably wilting from the heat. Usually if you water them well they will perk up. If they are in full sun then give them shade from the hottest part of the day.
I thought they were Impatiens, but when I was purchasing them at my local garden center the woman said they were Begonias and that's what they were listed as in the section that I purchased them. I never handled Begonias, so I thought I'd ask on this forum. I am still a novice, so I just assume that the garden center knows what it is selling.
It rained pretty hard over the weekend and more rain is in store so I didn't want to water for fear of over-watering. The ground seems pretty moist still. Could the roots be too wet?
It's possible it is too wet. If it isn't in standing water I would think it would be okay unless you have non-stop rain.
OK! Thanks I'll give a little water and see how they do in the morning! Are they Begonia's though? or Impatiens? They do look a bit different from my other impatiens....but as I said I am no expert, just going by what the garden center described them as.
They are not begonias and I do believe they are New Guinea impatiens. Your garden center needs some education it appears.
Oh-OK! I feel more like an expert now-because that is exactly what I thought they were : ) Next time I'll listen to my own gut! Thanks for all your advice!
Did you impatiens perk up? Also if you had just planted them, the roots have not grown out into the surrounding soil so the water could be going down the sides and not penetrating the dense rootball.
I had some and if you let them get too dry they do not bounce back. I just lost a few due to not watering fast enough. Where you live they are not going to live too much longer anyway. When is your first frost date? If you plant them in spring they should get quite large for you and you will get to enjoy them much longer. Though I just got smitten with one yesterday and had to buy it. I will not get my money's worth and I have 3 months more before it gets too cold for them.
Also are yours in full sun? I can plant them here in more sun but only becuase it does not get too hot here. I would think you get very hot where you are. They then need shade. Here is a great info sheet on them for you.

Here is my new Salmon Ice that just shimmers!
Yes, I added water and a little bit of fertilizer and they did indeed perk up-sorry it was so long to reply back, my membership expired, but I'm back on now. Thanks all for your feedback!
