I had some and if you let them get too dry they do not bounce back. I just lost a few due to not watering fast enough. Where you live they are not going to live too much longer anyway. When is your first frost date? If you plant them in spring they should get quite large for you and you will get to enjoy them much longer. Though I just got smitten with one yesterday and had to buy it. I will not get my money's worth and I have 3 months more before it gets too cold for them.

Also are yours in full sun? I can plant them here in more sun but only becuase it does not get too hot here. I would think you get very hot where you are. They then need shade. Here is a great info sheet on them for you.
