I have been growing morning glories for years and I never seem to get any flowers along the entire length, blooms seem to be on new growth only...anyone else notice that?
Double Red Morning Glories
Nice photo of your Double Red Morning Glory! :-)
Yes! I think most MGs do have buds/bloom on new growth. Others here might have more insight about that for you!
This is the first year I have grown these, I usually grow the old standbys. Thanks for the compliment.
Though ... as I am thinking of some I recently grew ... I had blooms showing up at the bottom of the plant (old growth) as well as the top of the vine over a period of time. Do you fertilize? Bloom Booster by MiracleGro is a good product to promote flowers.
I do fertilize but I am thinking I am no doing it enough, do you find they are heavy feeders?
To get blooms, yes ... they need to be fertilized every 2-3 weeks during the growing season. I find I get success using the Bloom Booster mixed with water and then watering the ground thoroughly where the vine roots are. I usually see buds appearing within a week after fertilizing it.
