Hydrocotyle synonyms or different species?

Hydrocotyle americana is listed as a synonym of H. ranunculoides in PF... are they two different species? The plant came up in the ID forum, and I'm trying to ID some Hydrocotyle at work ( in someones lawn ).

RHS lists them as separate species, and not synonymous http://www.rhs.org.uk/databases/summary2.asp?crit=Hydrocotyle%20and%20americana&Genus=Hydrocotyle

GRIN doesn't list any synonyms for Hydrocotyle ranunculoides, and doesn't have Hydrocotyle americana in their database

MOBOT does list H. americana as a synonym of H. ranunculoides http://www.tropicos.org/NameSynonyms.aspx?nameid=1700823

ITIS lists them separately with no synonyms. Their links don't copy and paste, but go here http://www.itis.gov/index.html and type them in one at a time and you will see the results.

I'm not sure why MOBOT has them as synonyms when none of the other databases do, but since we let RHS be the leading authority, I have removed the synonymy, especially since ITIS and all the other databases concur.

There currently is no PlantFile entry for Hydrocotyle americana, but here's some information I found. Perhaps you would like to create the entry?
