OK. I would say that the eating pattern on the wood really looked termite-like though.
Heronswood open house.
Mary, I'm not sure what insect that is. I do have fallen trees that have ants, insects in them, I've seen the Pileated Woodpeckers go after them. but I haven't been curious enough to reseach it. Jim
Mary ~ I'd definitely be leaning toward carpenter ants. They live in decaying wood, which describes your cedar stump to a "T." And there are hundreds of species and subspecies to choose from! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Camponotus_species
Jim. . .in addition to the white lab coat, I'm seeing some very thick eyeglass lenses, test tubes, Bunson burners, and a spark gap or two. And don't forget to practice your insane laugh while mussing your hair!
Susy. . .tragically, my pot ghetto is dwindling and I'm feeling a bit inadequate. I need to replenish my supplies for the winter so I'll have something to dote over during the winter.
Sheri, a DWINDLING POT ghetto? Shocking!!!! If I were closer, I'd happily drop off a few extras to help you not feel so inadequate! ;) How are you doing on trees? Shade plants?
Sue, maybe we should start another thread titled Pot Ghetto. Jim
Susy ~ Currently the ghetto consists primarily of lilies from the F&G because I didn't have anywhere to put them, a JM, two Tanoaks, the unknown plant which a few people in the Plant ID forum seem to think may be a Crepe Myrtle (http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/889346/), some native Snowberry I dug up, a Bay Laurel and some dead stuff. I've actually put quite a few plants in the ground but also moved some of the ghetto pots to the place I think the plants my want to live. Probably good that I don't have a bunch of stuff out there right now as it's been pretty warm and the ghetto has no shade. But come autumn, I'm sure I will repopulate with a vengeance!
How did that get so color full??? I'm still working on bold, And can't get it.
check the ant link out. All Items say page not there,
Tills

Jim, liked your idea for a new thread.
Sheri, that still sounds like a very respectable ghetto area.
Is it going to be open again this week/summer?
Hey Pixy, have you heard from Rachierabbit lately?
No, it was open only for that day, part of the Garden conservancy's Open Gardens Day. Maybe it will be open again next year. I guess it depends on whether they sell the place. I can't imagine anyone buying it if they cannot use it commercially.
I've seen Rachel once or twice. She is a busy girl lately and also is trying to keep the garden fever down to a mild roar.
Pix I was at Heronswood too. I thought it looked pretty good too. I think it is open again in August for 1 day.
Hope so Linda. Thanks for posting. I've checked online but can't find anything. Let me know if you hear anything else k?
Katie, email Heidi at Dragonfly. She mentioned to me that it was going to be open a couple of times this summer. maybe she knows the dates. Did you check the garden conservancy website? I noticed that it wasn't actually listed as open until you clicked on the actual date.
Thistle, i was impressed at how good it looked, considering only 1 guy is still there and then they hired a bunch of highschool kids to spruce it up for the open. It looked better than Lakewold Gardens, which I toured last week with my mother in law. They have a staff and I thought the garden looked pretty sad.
I'm dying to see Heronswood - I've never been. So if anyone hears of it being open, please post ahead of time!

Same day as the NW roundup, though.
Thanks!
Who wants to go?
Thanks, Melissa!
