Can you tell me the name of this wasp, I thought it was a 'red wasp' but it looks different than the photo on BugFiles of a Red Wasp . .

This wasp is in the family Sphecidae (digger wasps), such as Sphex ichneumoneus - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/31210527 for an image.

Very cool - thank you!! Now that I see what it is and read about it, I remember seeing one of these nesting last year - I just didn't know what it was doing! Glad I know now!
