CLOSED: Apple worm/fly infestation

(Zone 6b)

My poor apple tree has been infested for years. Can someone help me figure out what these insects are and how to get rid of them?

I was told that some fly lays eggs in the blossoms and then when the apple is forming, the worm eats it's way out through the apple. Every apple has this worm hole through the apple.

The apples fall from the tree without maturing.

Would appreciate any help.

The damage may be caused either by apple maggots (Rhagoletis pomonella) or codling moths (Cydia pomonella), see http://www.doityourself.com/stry/applepests for information that may help you decide which you have. Also, you might try contacting your county cooperative extension service office for advice - see http://county-tx.tamu.edu/ for contact information.
