He was on a gravel road that runs next to a creek. He ran fairly fast. Had a tapering body, bigger at the head. Should have flipped him to see his underbelly, but we didn't. Anyone know what this is?

CLOSED: What could this be?
This could be a larva of a carrion/burying beetle (Coleoptera: Silphidae) - see http://www.tolweb.org/tree/ToLimages/silphid_larvae.jpg, image B. Although usually associated with carrion, the larvae of some silphids are predaceous, feeding on other insects or even snails.
The link didn't work?
I found it on bug guide with your information. It looks exactly like mine! Thanks so much!!
