Best/Worst #52
Hellllooooo Everyone! I've been gone the past week on vacation with the family - to SMith Mtn Lake. We had a wonderful week - perfect weather, perfect water, perfect house with a view! It was hard leaving this morning but I really can't wait to sleep in MY bed tonight! I will have very little laundry to do cause I did it all at the rental house before we left! :) Murphy had a wonderful time too - couldn't keep him out of the water! It was all we could do to get his life jacket on before he flew off the end of the boat when we'd stop! And then the funny thing was, he'd whine to come back up, get all dried off then back in the water again! He would go absolutely balistic to get dry! We had to make sure all towels, clothes, etc were not where he could rub on them cause he would just go crazy!!! It was a riot! Since we're on a new thread, I'll post a few pictures for everyone to see.
The puppies have grown tremendously! Here's a picture from the other day...... I hope to get over to see them this week!!
LOL now we've 2 new threads on the go...too cute...love the photo's Jeannine..we've missed you...love the father and son photo....look at the Murphy, grab the limelight now, there will be a new puppy arriving any day...I'll post this link to thread 52 or was it 53...
Now that's my kind of vacation. Looks so relaxing. I could spend the rest of my life looking a view like that. After my dad died, three years later, my mom decided to take a permanent vacation for a view like that. She found a nice house literally on the side of a mountain in east Tenn and bought it. The area around west NC, northeast GA and Southeast Tenn was their vacation spots.
Nice pics Gardengirl! I have been trying to keep up with the previous thread but I can't, so I'm just going to start with this one. I know how it is about the camera, I'm not ever in any pictures unless I take one of myself! Glad you had an awseome vacation too!

jeannine, what a wonderful trip! teriffic pics with the family and murphy!!
glad you had a good time.
Anyone know what those tall things are on the right? They look like weeds but flowers are about to sprout up on top, so I left them. They are spiney like fiberous hairs and have toothy leaves I believe. Looks like a weed to me, but I figured I must have planted them since they are all in a single spot and nowhere else.
Looks like a weed to me dear. BEV
Gorgeous pictures, gardengirl. I have never been to Smith Mountain Lake, but this makes me want to try and visit there at point. Yes, what a beautiful setting. The swimming cove is wonderful!!!
Dawn, great pictures of the Memory Garden. I am glad to see you posting pictures. You have a lot of plants growing everywhere it seems.
Hi to all others.
Ruby
We're so good we've 2 #52's going on at same time..lol..I'll just visit both..
your gardens are beautiful Dawn..you've put a lot of work outside this year..doesn't look as though the drought has done damage...must be frequent watering...
It looks like a weed to me too. I'd leave it to find out what the blooms will look like, some weeds are really pretty. I have one I'm not sure what it is either, I know it's a weed because I haven't planted anything there. I was hoping the grass would take over but without any rain I doubt that's going to happen. the leaves fold up at night.
crissyr, I like it whatever it is. Put it on the plant ID forum. I want to know. Looks like some kind of tree seedling. BEV
That looks like Senna alata, a host tree for the Sulfur Butterflies. You may want to post that picture on the id forum.
Look awfully pretty to me...don't you hate it when avid gardeners come to visit and they pull a weed 'oops this is a weed' and I want to cry out 'oh no I love it, has beautiful flowers..have some big yellow ones right now, know they are weeds but shucks, I LIKE THEM!
Welcome Crissy...will post photo's of my weeds later..busy painting..lol
Other #52..

Now these were along the roadside last spring, dug a few up...know they are wildflowers, maybe not exactly weeds..
Some people's weeds are other people's treasures, like me, I've such few plants I'll take anything that blooms!
I posted it on plant id, they think it's a Southern Wild Senna, but unfortunately my husband was pulling weeds this morning and pulled it ggggrrrrrrrrrrr Maybe another one will pop up and I'll give him specific instructions to Leave It Alone!! If it's a tree it'll have to go, too close to the house for a tree.
lol Crissy, and here DH thought he was helping you out with your gardening!!!
LOL me too! Although yesterday he was in my way, all day. I was trying to dead head my coreopsis and found some sort of ivy growing in one of the plants, so I mentioned it to him that it was a pretty color, very light green, and he comes over there and tells me, "You need to follow it down to the ground and pull it." meanwhile going through this coreopsis plant, knocking all of the seeds onto the ground. I was telling him, "don't touch it, I'll get there, stop, don't pull or push on it, Dave, Stop NOWW!!" I told him I was going to dead head it first, I was so mad I was cussing him out the rest of the day.
Dang! I went outside to take some pictures and to look for another Senna. I was in the back and this huge horsefly looking thing with a blue head landed on the side of the house. I was going to take a picture of it to put on bug id and it flew off and started dive bombing me. I ran while ducking, probably my first mistake, completely around the house and stopped at my front steps, it was gone, stood there for about 30 seconds and it showed up dive bombing me again, so I darted in the house. It's going to be awhile before I go out there again! Anyway, I caught a picture of this before all of that happened:
Not often you catch one of these...hey guys, in order that everyone meet you all, get to know you..love you and you our old friends..could we go back the other #52...gets confusing for this old gal...lol..
Sorry Dawn, new thread was much appreciated..I must have forgotten to put the link to this one down so all could join us in the new room...
