I cut my Weigela down to the ground and would like to know if it will sprout out with new growth on it again?
I hope that it will not kill it. It was getting out of hand and I thought that if i cut it down to the ground it would come back better than ever?
Hope someone can help me here?
WEIGELA CUT TO GROUND
I searched around and found one reference saying that you can do this to Weigela (most of the other sites I found had different pruning techniques that are preferred for it) http://www.mortonarb.org/res/CLINIC_hort_PruningShrubs.pdf This isn't the time of year they recommend to do it but hopefully that won't make a difference. I would also do some research next time before cutting something all the way back--this is a technique that works great for some shrubs and can work for others although it might not be the most recommended approach, but there are some that won't come back at all from a "rejuvenation" pruning like this so it's definitely best to investigate ahead of time.
