Can anyone please help us identify this insect, which is the smallest of 3 that suddenly appeared near my front door today? (The other 2 got away.) This one's body is about 1 1/2 inches long, the others were much longer. Thanks!

This long-horned wood-boring beetle (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) appears to be a brown prionid, Orthosoma brunneum - see http://www.pbase.com/sasc/image/3596530 for an image. Their larvae bore into dead wood, and are not really considered pests. Also, you may wish to add your information at http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/1618/
Thank you! Now I am not so worried about the larger ones that disappeared!
