Need help figuring out what this bug is. Have seen these in pairs in my garden lately. Not sure if they are what has been eating my plants.

This is a net-winged beetle (Coleoptera: Lycidae) in the genus Calopteron - see http://www.cedarcreek.umn.edu/insects/album/024057014ap.html for images and http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/misc/beetles/banded_net-winged_beetle.htm for moe information. They would not be responsible for damaging your plants.
