CLOSED: Insect Identification
This is a parasitic wasp in the family Ichneumonidae genus Megarhyssa. Their larvae feed on the larvae of wood-boring wasps in the family Siricidae, such as the pigeon tremex, using their long ovipositor to bore through wood to the tunnel(s) where the wood wasp larva is living. See http://www.cirrusimage.com/hymenoptera_ichneumon_megarhyssa_fem.htm and http://insects.ummz.lsa.umich.edu/Images/Hymenoptera/megarhyssa.html for images and more information.
