I have a tiger lily that has little black 'seed' looking things along the stalk. I have heard those can be planted. Will they bloom true to the parent? Also they are still on the stalk right now, how do I know when they are ready to harvest? And then do I just put them right in the ground? how deep?
Thanks for any advice!
starting seeds from Tiger lily
Here is some info ~ see the section on Bulbils http://lilies.org/propagation.html
Thanks, that helped a bunch.
Seems I can pluck them off while they are nice and fat and sow them right in the ground. Didn't say how deep though. Maybe a couple inches?
Frilly, I have had Tiger lilies for a long time. The seeds fall and make new plants. It takes three years from seed before you will have blooms. The little ones coming up the first year will only have one leaf. They pretty much can take care of themselves but it is up to you. Mine are just getting ready to bloom now. BEV
