Who left the bathroom dirty?

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Okay.... It might be an inappropriate question, but I've always wondered...

Do you keep your home bathroom cleaner than the public restrooms? Who is it that leaves scraps of TP on the floor in the public restrooms? Do they do the same thing at home? And who tosses their hand paper towels near the trash can, but not in it? If they did that at home, wouldn't wife or Mom be hollering?

Have you ever wondered, "Who made this mess!?!" when you were visiting the public restroom? When that's my first thought, the second is always, "I wonder if they'd get away with this at home?"

If you're the one leaving a mess, clean it up, please! :)

=) All meant in humor, but still worth discussion...

What I've always hated when going into a men's public restroom and seeing a spot(s) on the floor in front of the commode, I imagine the next person after me will assume I did it.

Step a little closer guys. It's not as long as you think.

(Zone 7a)

Maybe not appropriate but...still funny to wake up to. LOL

And can you please wipe that spot off? I know you know you did it.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL!!

I bet many of those who do mess up the bathrooms do it at home, too. I know some people who are truly horrendous with their bathroom habits.

Plano, TX

especially bad when it is at work and you know it's all adults using the restroom and you know it's someone you work with who has the poor bathroom habits--just don't know who! and i am like gk--i leave and hope the next person doesn't think i am the messy one-

I wish people would live by the old saying,

If you sprinkle when you tinkle,
please be neat and wipe the seat.

In defense of leaving the bathroom dirty ...

If I don't notice a spot when I go in but there's one when I finish I will use TP to pick it up. I am very careful the entire "pad" doesn't touch the floor. I'll do that for mine but not for someone else's.

Paper towels on the floor; When I throw things at the waste receptacle at home I miss 7 of 10 times. I have to pick/clean it up. I don't know why I imagine to have better luck in public. If mine is the only one on the floor I'll gently pick it up and dispose properly. The Five Second Rule sometimes comes into play. Again, I'm not going to pick up someone else's.

If the WR is full I'll gently place my paper towel on top and smoosh it a wee bit to make sure it stays in place till I get out the door. At home I use a newspaper to pack the bag so I can get more in it (or more likely, so I don't have to take it out right then).

When removing TP from the roll and a small corner tears off and flutters to the floor, I'm not picking that up. I don't KNOW what is on the floor. I do at home and will pick it up but I have a good idea what's there, not in public.

If the sink area is clean and dry I try to leave it that way. There are always some splatters when washing hands. If it's not I don't go out of my way to add to the mess, but again, I'm not cleaning someone else's.

At least I'm not the only one offended by public restroom filth. There's absolutely no way we'd leave scraps of TP on the floor in our homes. I also don't believe anyone would water the toilet seat & leave it there for a loved one to sit on.

Yes, it's most offensive at work - I often wonder to myself, "How many of these guys get away with this at home? Their wives would flip if they knew how disrespectful they are out here..."

Most public RR's I've been in make me cringe. I am so glad they are switching to the automatic flush toilets, the automatic faucets and building the stalls behind a long hallway that has no doorway so you don't have to have YOUR clean hands touch a nasty handle from others who skip the wash.

Do you ever want to say something to someone just leaving without washing? Or something to someone who just does it for "looks" and barely sprinkles their hands?

Ew!

North Saanich, Canada

Tir: just a bit of defense for those who only sprinkle their hands!! I am allergic to most soaps that are in public washrooms. I get a terrible rash and dry skin, usually within 10 minutes of using them. So I only rinse my hands well under the water, and don't use any soap. The hand sanitizers are also not good for me.
I too like the automatic everythings in the washrooms, but also find that the water splashes up so much, that when the next person sits down, voila-wet butt!!! Then you wonder, hmmm.....is that just water splashed up, or is it something else??? : - )
The other annoying thing is people who don't flush!!! Is that not somethign we have all been taught-to flush when you're done??
Just my 2 cents worth!

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Well it sounds like your method of "rinse my hands well under the water" is far from a "sprinkling"! You know how they say you need to sing yourself a song while brushing your teeth and that's how long you should be brushing? Well I do the same (silently of course!) while washing, hoping I'm being an example. I like to foam and scrub ala doctor style. LOL LOL!

I open stalls with my foot or knee and if there's a sprinkle on the seat I'm not sitting.

In desperate times I've even just squatted rather than sit on a nasty seat. It's a great thigh workout!

And ladies, do NOT leave your purse to sit on the RR floor. I've seen plenty of news stories analyizing the germs on the bottoms of purses and ewwww man it's all from there. Then you sit it on your home counter, your car seats etc etc.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

News stories are designed to sensationalize what people have been doing for decades. I don't worry too much about it. I wouldn't get down and lick the floor of a bathroom, but I have made it this long without any horrid effects from the stuff the news swears will kill us. That's why we have immune systems (unless we've grown up in hyper-sanitized bubbles and never develop them. LOL).

Plano, TX

i agree but it still is gross to put your purse on the public bathroom floor :(

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Gardenwife, I'd likely agree with you----who doesn't eat raw cookie dough? LOL. But when it comes to illness and disease there have been plenty creeping up in the U.S. that were dormant when I grew up.

And in the valley (far south Texas) I'd see in public RR's more often than not, signs that read: PLEASE DO NOT THROW TOILET PAPER ON THE FLOOR, THROW IT IN THE TOILET.

I was told this is because of the high populations there of Mexicans who from Mexico often came from areas with poor plumbing and they DO NOT throw paper in the toilets because the systems aren't designed for it.

Don't you hate when women cram their (un)sanitary items in those bins on the stall walls to. So gross.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Well, unless the stall has a hook or ledge (also covered in fine droplets, don't ya know), there's not much else place to put it while teetering and straining calf and thigh muscles trying to stay upright! ;)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

When I was the purse carrying type (can't stand to have one now) I set it on top the TP holders or used the hooks up high on the stall walls.

Funny this thread is here.

Last night hubby and I went to quite a few stores, fitting a few
stops to the restroom in.

Twice I came out and told him "There is nothing 'ladies' about that room.

Nasty, nasty, nasty, nasty, nasty!

Pet peeve of the shopping event? When I flush, I make certain whatever
it is has left the building before I do. Nothing worse than the next person
in line becoming the recipient of your leftovers.

Eww.

(Zone 7a)

Amen.

Indian Harbour Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

When I was working -- because I worked for the "boss" I would get the complaints about the bathrooms - men's and women's..... so I made up a large sign and posted it in the bathrooms above the toilet paper holders: "Martha Stewart doesn't live here -- neither does your Mother, so please clean up after yourself!.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

WUVIE- great line!

Story one- in the airport, hear the lady next to me bring in a little girl, go thru a whole Don't SIT on the Seat rigamarole.......and then they left without handwashing!!!!

Story two- in a Walmart dontcha know.. find a used pregnancy test kit in the stall and a religious tract by the sink. WM the great melting "pot"

I agree with gk's standards of restroom behavior. It only seems like common cleanliness and courtesy!

I would avoid setting my purse on the floor in any restroom, but also would avoid putting it on any kitchen counter. Wow it just occurred to me that I bring bags of groceries in and sometimes put them on counter, thus transferring from car floor to counter...But don't let me digress...
